Hi
Wow I feel lucky. My wife and I are just back after flying out to San Francisco and picking up a 94 Coupe and then making a holiday out of the drive back home to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We drove the PCH to LA and then to Sedona and the Grand Canyon and through Colorado before hitting I -80 and then due east. In all we logged over 4000 miles and the car behaved almost perfectly, the only problem was the need for as new driver's side windshield wiper on the last day of our trip, the only one with rain. Fortunately we were within a few miles of a Porsche dealership, which the Garmin took us to, but they didn't have the part so sent me around the corner to NAPA which had a wiper.
It sounds like I rolled the dice and won. The 968 had a thorough PPI in San Francisco, and again was checked over when the oil was changed during the trip in Santa Barbara. I was keeping my fingers crossed when traveling through the expanses of the Mojave in CA, Arizona and Colorado. I had a list of recommended mechanics, from 968Forums, and Porsche dealerships on my route.
As to traveling speeds I found that in Arizona, speed limit 75, I could hook up with a group doing 80 but not much more. In Nebraska, no on seemed to exceed the 75 limit. As we traveled east the speed limits dropped but willingness to exceed the limit increased. I was keeping the speeds very conservative, because, although the paperwork was in order it might have taken a while to sort it out, if stopped, and that would have been aggravating and negate any time advantage from the speeding.
We bought several Audio Books and found they were a great aid to the long hours of driving. The 968 is the most comfortable car for long distance driving I have driven.
Cheers
Steve
