The Beatles: Taxman
#1

Let me tell you how it will be;

There's one for you, nineteen for me.

'Cause I’m the taxman,

Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Should five per cent appear too small,

Be thankful I don't take it all.

'Cause I’m the taxman,

Yeah, I’m the taxman.

(if you drive a car, carWink - I’ll tax the street;

(if you try to sit, sitWink - I’ll tax your seat;

(if you get too cold, coldWink - I’ll tax the heat;

(if you take a walk, walkWink - I'll tax your feet.

Taxman!

'Cause I’m the taxman,

Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson)

If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath)

'Cause I’m the taxman,

Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)

Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)

'Cause I’m the taxman,

Yeah, I’m the taxman.

And you're working for no one but me.

Taxman!

This song has been "Revolving" around my head all day as I dig through our "Records" and proceed to minimize the taxman.

Thanks all for letting me whine! This is really impacting my 968 time!

Yea funny you say that. I started putting mine together today also. I read a couple of articles that indicated Cal and NY are experiencing so much difficulty because they raised the rates on the rich, became over dependent on this revenue stream. And lo and behold this is the most volatile group of taxpayers. And most taxed. Sort of makes me long for term limits to keep these arrogant holier than thou jerks out. Off my box for now!

we did ours very early this year, as we did not want the big surprise late in the game - it was a pretty big year, and we didn't think we put away enough, but it turned out ok - still, i'll wait unti the last minute to send that last big chunk away

As a conservative to the right of Attila, I now would and have upped my charitable giving to reduce Sam's grab. Not a dollar for dollar reduction but feels good. Good Lord what is this world coming too!

Last year was a very good year, which means next month will be a very bad month...

lol - yup - having to cut a check the size we do, in spite of parking our quarterlies based on the previous year, sucks, but it could be worse - thankfully i had estimated correctly, and parked money for this - i was within $500 on our total tax liability, so no big shock - still, a lot more than i want to be paying, as i am paying more in taxes than a lot of people make in a year, which just seems wrong, but not the end of the world

No one enjoys paying taxes. But most people who make less in total yearly income than others pay in taxes would jump at the chance to trade places. It's all relative. More important than money is health.

lol - they would until they actually did it - it's a royal pain to have to do the amount of paperwork all year that we have to do - it's a very tedious continual process that just never ends - it's also danged expensive - our annual accounting fees are insane

Of the people I know who make less per annum than I pay in taxes, few of them would trade places with me, if for no other reason than they highly value their opportunity to bitch and moan about "rich people". [Image: laugh.gif]

So less affluent would rather maintain their lot in life in order to be able to bitch about rich people. I don't think I ever met a poor person who didn't want to be rich. I know rich people that bitch about richer people!

Of course everyone would rather *be* rich, but the comment was that they would jump at the chance to trade places (I assumed with *us*), and admittedly I made the gross assumption that most of the membership still had to get up and go to work (of some kind) most mornings, and that we weren't independently wealthy enough to live without effort, but that we still worked pretty hard and took responsible investment risks to get ahead. (I assumed that because we're 968forums.com instead of twomclarensinthedriveway.com.) I should not have done that.

Guess I misunderstood, sorry. Yet I have had employees who during a discussion about advancement within our company say to me, " I would like your job". When I ask them to tell me what their understanding of what that encompasses is, more often than not the response is stammering or a real lack of understanding of what the job requires. People wanting be rich is similar because again, little understanding of how to get there, what it requires and how hard it can be to remain! There aren't that many clipping coupons and eating bon bons.

The amount we pay in taxes is not nearly as upsetting to me ( though I do, and have been paying my fair share, and a healthy sum at that, to say the least..) as seeing where that money goes and the colossal waste, without any ability to do something about it. Why can't you do anything about it you ask ?..well, call me cynical but in my 55 years on this planet

( ok, 35 years because until I was 20 I did not pay too much in taxes ) I came to the conclusion that no matter who you vote in office, whether republican, or democrat, or indy, or green, or socialist, or tin-foil hat party, and whether at national , or state , or county, or city level , they all eventually just play the same old game and will spend the great majority of your tax dollars toward things that absolutely infuriate you.

Having lived in DC for many years, the inside the beltway mentality instantly becomes part of any politicians persona. So term limits to minimize the period of time each has.

Not sure what the details are behind the headline so there's probably far more than meets the eye, but I did read at least the preface

segment to the story which indicated GE made $ 55 Billion in profit in '09 and not only paid 0 taxes, but got a tax refund. Somehow that seems implausible, but perhaps not impossible.

After all, only "little people" pay taxes, right ? Problem of course is the IRS being the most omnipotent force imaginable - in the U.S. you can get away with murder, but try to mess with Taxes and you're screwed.

My issue has to do more with process than payment. I can't stand the form filling every year. Just charge a 10% (or 12% or 20%) sales tax on everything (except for basic food, clothing housing and medication) and leave me alone.

I believe EVERY citizen should pay SOMETHING in taxes without limits high or low...

JMHO,

The idea to abolish income tax and just add a big sales tax on everything except food, shelter, clothes, and medical, at least below a certain level, is one that seems to make more and more sense to me the more I've thought about it. The advantages are huge: a big federal beauracracy eliminated overnight, no bookkeeping hassles, tax fraud virtually eliminated. What's the downside? Other than a bunch of bureaucrats have to find an honest way to make a living, one has to think long and hard to come up with a rational argument in opposition. It does seem to make a lot of sense so, under our government's standard operating procedure, it's a plan that doesn't stand a chance of serious consideration.

In addition, a sales tax would eliminate the loophole created by the "Cash Economy"...the only thing left out would be barter, and that is already excluded.
