Getting my roll cage powder coated Gaurds Red. Had hoped to pop out the sunroof and bring it with me for a relative paint match. Having never removed the roof I went to the owners manual. It says release the latches and lift up. That's it. Problem is when I do just that the roof doesn't want to budge. I don't want to get to rough and tough with it cause it works perfect and I don't want to bust anything. But what am I missing here? Please help. Thanks, -Tom

On my 944S, I'd put the key in ACC and press the sunroof switch as if to open it, which would retract the two lift arms, then I could just pop it out.



If your sunroof opens normally otherwise, I wouldn't think it's "stuck closed" in any way... It does open normally, right?

Mmmm... my car is smarter than me. That was a good write up. Once I understodd how the whole thing works it all makes sense. I think I was trying to remove it in the ON position rather than the ACC position. I will try again tonight.

It worked. Previous owner had all sorts of foam pieces stuffed in the cavity in the sunroof occupied by the wind deflector. Wonder what sort of rattles and squeaks I'm about to unleash on myself by removing all the random foam.

My problem was that the ACC position in the ignition switch is not clearly defined... by mechanical "feel" of the switch position or by any marks or symbols on the ingition itself. Maybe mine is worn out. Kinda had to guess where the ACC position was.

Just be thankful your sunroof mechanism works. The same definitely can't be said for all 968 coupes....

That seems about right. Probably once for stripped gears, and once for broken cables, or microswitches?

Yep, I agree, that sounds about right. After a good 20 hours of troubleshooting, primarily relying on Clark's Garage's excellent write-up, mine works, but only after first having to move it up to the vent position. It's as if it needs to "warm up" before deciding it's going to work for me...

The PO of my 944S had never had the roof panel out in their entire ownership. I don't think they could figure it out. When I got the car it was out the first day.

I love driving mine with the roof off, as it drowns out the unpleasant rumbling road noise, so I temd to leave it off for extended periods of time. I hold my breath every time I press the console switch, though.
