Suggestion regarding login
#1

Just stopping by to reiterate a suggestion, that one not have to log in to view/read posts. I have a 996, 968 M030 and 931 S2 and visit 924board.org two to three times a day, but only get back here about once every several weeks, and I believe it is because I cannot simply enter the site, that there is a speed bump on the path to getting in, namely that one has to log in. It is an extra step. Certainly one should have to log in to post. I've written before on this but just wanted to re-suggest folks be able to read the site unimpeded. Speaking for myself, I believe it would lead to my visiting more often.

Also, I believe there would be more participation on the site if folks were allowed easier read access - this would lead to more folks participating as registered and logged in members. Thereby giving one more reason to visit more frequently. More folks reading is part of a positive feedback loop leading to more activity overall. Not sure if there is a desire for greater participation, or wider usage, but the opening of the site to easier read only access would result in increased activity overall. The site is a great resource.

Steve,

We hear you but this is unlikely (never going) to ever happen. The folks who frequent here are rarely, if ever, subject to Spam posts. We have no desire to to be lurked or hacked by outsiders so we have set the bar high to get membership and to use the site...it is free to those who choose to enter, so the price of membership is to say hello when you enter this house.

Overwhelmingly, members don't seem to mind the process and our goal is to be the best community and not neccesarily the largest. This is a community of friends and once you cross the threshold you will be welcomed, the first step is yours.

Enjoy your stay,

Jay

just set your computer to autofill the boxes - that's what i do

we set it up this way for some very real reasons

while readers are good, participants are better - allowing reading without logging in promotes lurking, in which we are not interested - we want people to get involved - that's why we added the introductions section and requirement for new members - it has resulted in many new friendships and people getting together off site

we would rather have a smaller group of close knit people than a large group of lurkers - fortunately for us, we have a large group of friends

login also provides us a spam control - it prevents the bots from browsing the content

sorry, but login is a requirement that will not go away

I understand your point Steve.

I'm looking into getting a used BMW and I own 2 Toyotas. So every so often I lurk around other forums to learn something. If Google brings up a topic I'm looking for in a forum that requests a log in. I typically hit the back button and go to another link. It's just not worth the time to register as I rarely enjoy other forums do to the lack of maturity.

On the other hand, I actually enjoy coming here. I'm never steered wrong and the posts are typically respectful and well thought out. Even the off topic convos. Its more of a community here. So I don't mind the log in, as Flash mentioned, Its on auto fill.

10 seconds to log on is no big deal, to access such a great wealth of information.
The smaller the group the better the content.

No problem here with login.

I usually login first thing in the morning then pop back in repeatedly during the day.

I do understand where you are coming from if you only stop by once very 2-3 weeks, but I think it is a small "price" to pay for the value this site brings to the table.

Just my $0.02.
