Stinky blinky
#1

I am wondering if anyone else gets aggravated by how quiet our blinker switch is? I take a slight right turn on the way to the golf course, and invariably I find myself at the next traffic light with it still blinking. It is almost silent... any remedies to make the thing, just a bit louder? Thanks

I find that when I turn up my hearing aides, I can hear the blinker...true story.

Have you tried driving with your significant other in the car? Mine can point out my driving errors well before I realize the mistake. Tongue

um - look at the dash more often?  it should be at least every 10 seconds, same as your mirrors.

Lol! Thanks for the suggestions! Well Flash, it turns out that the sun is often at my back and the top is down 99% of the time, so you can't really see it blinking... that's the reason I inquired if anyone had a remedy.

FWIW, the 968 blinkers , as quiet as they are , are still louder than three of my much newer cars . I'm almost thinking the newer the quieter .. The MBZ, the Jeep and the Maserati . In fact , the Maserati blinkers are absurd ; almost completely silent AND the light signal is so tiny, it's essentially undetectable in daylight .

I have a solution... just go back to good old fashioned arm signals... we could stop using the almost silent blinker AND delete the third brake light! Problem solved!

hmmmm - i never had a problem seeing the signal light in the sun.  my top was almost always down.  bad bulb?  dirty lens in the cluster?  polarized sunglasses?  partial red/green color blindness?

Leaving the blinker on? Classic age issue! When John Glenn last went into space, at age 77, he left the right turn signal on the space shuttle blinking for three orbits!

OK, so I checked my turn signal & it is really quiet too.  I'm not sure if it's always been like this or age has gotten to it...

If I were going to fix this chime/speaker (which I'm not), I'd probably pull it out and try one for a newer Porsche (although I've heard some of those are quiet too) or even a 944 or just get a new speaker/chime somewhere (like e-bay) with the same ohms and diameter.  Then I'd check the volume with some test leads before installing it permanently.

Or here are some other options, if you want to have a louder turn signal sound:  http://www.turnalarm.com/

Funny discussion.......Yes, there is very little sound from the turn signal.......but as a good "pilot" you should  scan your instruments and mirrors every 10-15 seconds. .....If you do, you will notice that little green flashing light.....Most cars have both a left and a right turn indicator....not in a Porsche...I guess they figured we where so smart, we would know if we where turning left or right....good for us LOL

I must have a bad bulb because it is very faint and can't really be noticed with the top down on a sunny day. No color blindness or polarized sunglasses and the dash cluster is sparkling clean. Who knows, maybe it was replaced in the past with the wrong wattage bulb?

Tejon, thanks for the link, but I think I may be out of luck with that option as I have LED bulbs and required an different "flasher" for them. It was super quiet before I switched it out though anyway. Hand signals it is!!! Lol

To think about the worries of some. Every time I slither into my track car I manage to hit the turn signal with my knee. I finally have it on checklist of things to look at before I start the car.
