The other forum that I frequent seems to be too Cayman/Boxster centric to even bother responding to this.
My Cayenne steering wheel has two rotary wheels, one for volume (which I seldom use) and the other to control the PCM functions (I use this one all the time). It is getting harder to turn, suggesting that it is accumulating dust and other debris. I remember that this was a problem with the older Blackberrys for those of you who had those phones.
I want to disassemble the steering wheel as much as needed to access the two function wheels - I think that I can clean them out using jeweler's forceps. What I need is a schematic of the wheel parts to see what can be removed and in what order. I think that only the black trim piece surrounding the airbag NEEDS to be removed although I suspect that other parts, perhaps the airbag, need to come off first.
A picture is attached.
I am hoping that someone here has access to the parts diagram for a 2104 Cayenne steering wheel.

I can help out with a diagram in the morning, but please take this warning, if you do not know what you are doing with explosive devices I would take it to a main stealer
I really don't advise fiddling with airbags.

I wasn't planning to do it myself. Was just trying to get some info so the dealer could do it for me.

I wonder if you could just shoot some "tuner cleaner" in there and free it up some? If you have a Radio SHack or electronics supply you might give it a try and avoid taking anything apart.

i thought about that but, if it causes some other problem, then I REALLY need to disassemble the wheel.

From what I can see in PET2 the steering wheels come complete start at about $800 and just go up from there

i was afraid of that BUT who knows what bolts and screws might be present underneath te airbag visible only when it has been removed.

Im not sure what other forum you visit, but Rennlist has Cayenne and Macan specific sections. You might find more specific info there.

I visit Planet9. They seem to have no members who are interested in much of anything other than Boxsters and Caymans. Maybe 911s to the extent that they can crap on them.

In the guitar and amp world we often encounter potentiometers that are sticky or create crackle and static when turned. The first solution to try is the "exercise" them. Turning back and forth from 0-10 and back fast about 40-50 times. This solves the issue more often than not. And, if you can fit the tiny straw applicator that comes with contact cleaner into the gap at each side of the roller switch, a spritz or two might help. I can't imagine that a couple of squirts of contact cleaner could harm anything. I'd certainly try this before performing surgery on the wheel.

A mosquito could not slide a wing sideways into the gap between the little wheel and the sourrounding rubber. Or, to sound like a herpetologist, the gap is tighter than a frog's arse in ice water.
I have tried the fast turning of the wheel numerous times with no real luck. I think that there is simply nowhere for the dirt to go - it is just being rolled sound on the wheel. I need to remove it.
I may simply get the Porsche shop to take off the airbag nd then we can see what, if anything, is possible from there. It had to be put together somehow - removal should be the reverse of assembly should it not?

have you been reading Haynes Manuals? that's all the ever say, assembly is the reverse of removal, in about 80% of the jobs no its not.
If you disconnect the battery for about 20 mins before disassembly you should not blow your head off with an air bag, and I would be tempted to have a poke around from the front with a cocktail stick or two to see what i could fish out,
