I remember back in 1999 driving into Montana and the speed limit saying "Prudent and Reasonable"

I floored it .... too bad I was on a road trip to national parks and driving a minivan <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

The 85th percentile speed idea is a sound one. They actually paid attention to that here (in Colorado Springs) and raised many speed limits within the city, and continue to tinker with them. The result - much better traffic flow. Go figure.

Sometimes the Arizona system seems like "if anyone, anywhere, any time in the last 5 years, has had a wreck on this road, let's drop the speed limit, add photoradar, increase fines, and/or put in traffic circles." I just don't think that they realize that there will always be a certain percentage of idiots that just can't drive.
