Hello,



I am 71 years young and do not classify myself as a "Lurker" in any sense of the word. I get the feeling that I have to enter into a bunch of BS sessions just to build up points, so I can enter another group "Rookie". Will I have one more privilege added at that time I don't have now? I may have missed the section where it lists what each members category is able to access.



As a fairly new member I keep getting an ERROR saying I'm not allowed to view member's profiles when I try to add to my Profile. I am a member of five other forums and have never had this type of problem. I bought a 1992 968 Cab recently and was looking forward to enter discussions about problems encountered with the car and the DIY maintenance solutions. The entries in that section are few and far between. It makes me wonder if the 968 is that good or everyone just takes their car to a PM for all maintenance. I do all my own maintenance on my 944 and enjoy every minute of it.



I have read everything in the "Reading Room" and have gained a great deal of knowledge to help in my journey of DIY Maintenance on the 968. I noticed many things referenced back to the 944 Work Shop Manuals of which I have a full hard copy set. I downloaded a copy of the 968 Work Shop Manual and printed out specific parts I was not familiar with.

Welcome! It is great to have some "maturity" and "wisdom" added to the site. Since you now have a 968, you can update your profile with that info!

Keep interacting with some of the posts (some are more "mature" than others! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ), and as your "post level" increases, you will gain full access to all parts of the Forum.

Great that you have 944 DIY experience. Don't be shy to share your experiences with the rest of us.

Welcome to the forums! I hope you'll share your DIY-ability with the group. The post requirement is an unfortunately necessary mechanism given how much spam hits any forum these days and how many hours it otherwise takes to battle it - I moderate other forums with all of the "Captcha" tricks and still get a ton of spam. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> There is a section (I believe under Tutorial in the header) that explains how many posts get you to what level, but the short story is that it's not very many, so hang in there.

second, indeed your access issue is related to your member level - consult the Tutorial for an explanation of member levels, access restrictions, how they correlate, and how you graduate from one level to the next

Welcome Larry. Great to have a fellow backyard grease monkey amongst us. Many of us have transitioned from 944s to 951s to 968s and back. Many of the same issues surface, but there are a few unique to the 968. Perhaps that's why you don't see as many DIYs.



Just wait till you get to do the vario-cam pads...Good fun.

Welcome to the 968 Forums website - you have got me beat on age - but only by 1 year! No matter what age you are, owning and driving a 968 is fun.



As a new owner, you will find there is quite a bit of interest in our cars, with 968 events scheduled throughout the country. Also, Porsche Club of America created a 968 Register, more info in the back of the Panorama magazine or go to www.968register.org



Hope to meet you at a 968 event in the future.

Thank you one and all for the Welcome. My son-in-law got me started in the 944 car bug as he has one, a 85.2 NA. I'm lucky that he was a Porsche Trained Mechanic and now only works on his friends Porsche's on his off days. About the only things he will not mess with are the different transmissions. He has not turned one bolt or nut on my car. If I run into any problems, I read the Work Shop Manual or check out Clark's Garage.com. The rebuild hobby I started seems to have a mind of its own with all the "WYIT" add ons. I have a spare engine that I'm working through and just have the rod bearings, front seals / oil pan gasket, new water pump and new clutch to install. The top end is all completed with a Chrome powder coated Cam Housing. It seems all the new parts never ends. I can hardly wait to remove and replace the engine. At least with the engine out I can detail the engine compartment and replace the OEM engine mounts. I have the Lindsey Racing blue silicone water hoses and blue vacuum lines to spice up the engine and Pauer Tune S/S Fuel Lines to install. The cars interior was not all that bad except for the dash cracks, which I now have a crack free one to replace it. I'm not really looking forward to the swap out as I seem to be suffering from "CRS". The seats are Can Can Red full leather, but I'm changing the color as I bought a set of Marble Grey Boxster seats. These seats will be much easier on my old butt. Still working out how to jury rig the seat rails as they are just a little wider than the 944 or 968. May have to dust off the MIG Welder for a slight modification. All four corners will have Koni Shocks/Struts, 26.8mm front and 18mm rear sway bars, 86 951 Brembo brakes, hubs, etc. and have Boxster S 17" Turbo Twist Wheels installed. Paint touched up in a couple of places and I'll feel comfortable taking a nice long trip in her.
