Smaal Dutch 968 CS project
#1

Hi Guys,

As mentioned in my introduction I was lucky to get my hands on a '93 968 CS M030 from a friend of mine in France. Since then I altered a number of thing, trying to get it in the shape I'd like it to be. Last Tuesday I left the car in the capable hands of a friend of mine for a paintjob of the nose and the rear bumper. I expect it to be back by this Saterday and will then mount the last bits and pieces ( among which the carbon fibre wind splitter I had made ) Here are some pictures, you guys are so fond off ....

Started with powdercoating the original rims in Black and widening the front and rear track ( front 26 mm, rear 16 mm ) ; that was a big improvement ....

Since one of the rear Koni's leaked a bit I decided to change them both, get the old ones 'overhauled' and put them on the shelf just in case :

Then I started with the holes for the naca-ducts and the mold for the carbon-fiber windsplitter :

I assume I hit the max number of pictures that fit in one post ... T.b.c.

Ok, part II

Doing the naca ducts mod the hole in the front-bumper is a 'must-do' too, isn't it ?

After finishing that I treated myself with a new set of foglights and a set of white 993 blinkers which, after some modification, fit quiet well on the 968 ...

Refreshed the gear - and differential oil and the shaft-seals in the process and the brake-fluid in brakes and clutch-cylinder.

That's it for part II ... t.b.c.

Part III

Then, just before I had to bring the car to the paintguy I decided I did not like the sideblinkers, got them off and welded in a piece of sheet metal to get rid of it . . . . then dismounted the side plastics to get them resprayed as well.

Waiting for Saterday to arrive ..... to finish this part of the project and get on with the last part of this little project : the timing belt replacement ...

I'll keep you guys posted !

Looking good! Now that you made a mold for the front splitter, is it reusable?

Frank,
Very impressive. I have enjoyed following your project.

There has been a great deal of interest in getting clear turn signal lenses for the 968. The 993 will fit, almost, but not do not look OEM. I can not tell from the pictures what modifications you have done to get an OEM fit. Is the lens modified or the body?

The car looks really strong!

Thanks
Brian
