I have a problem with my rev limiter/counter, which seems to be having a mind of its own.
When it does decide to work its a bit "jumpy and not very "smooth" and then it just suddenly stop working only to start again suddenly. I have noticed that sometimes driving over a bump on the road will get it going again, which to me indicate a loose connection but.............what do I know??
I had the car serviced at an Independent Porsche Specialist a couple of weeks ago, which (obviously) spends most of his time on 911's (not many 968's in my neighborhood).
He only billed me two hours for the service + oil, filter etc. so obviously didn't spend very much time on it (could he
actually check the instrument cluster in such a short time?), He suggested I try source a new (2[sup]nd[/sup] hand) instrument cluster as he said he didn't think it was a "faulty connection".
Before I go down that route, has anyone experienced this before or something similar?
Also, if I do get a new cluster, is it possible to set the milage/kms odometer so it matches my current one and the miles the car has done?
Any advice will be hugely appreciated in this respect.
A side issue which I don't expect it to be related - the trip-meter works most of the time but once in a while it gets stuck and then the odometer doesn't tick over either. Several pushes on the "reset" button eventually gets it going again.
