Responding to Forums Notifications
#21

go to:

My Settings, then to Notification Options

check the boxes you want to get notifications about, and how

for example, if you want a notification that you have a PM, and you want it via email, you would check the appropriate box in the Email column, in the Private Message section

if you don't want a notification of a particular thing, uncheck the box

OK, got it. I'm a little slow, but I now understand why you recommended doing this. If people changed the preferred method of notification of PMs from "email" to "online notification," it would prevent people from reflexively responding directly to their email notification. I've been guilty of this myself, but I think it's been a few years since my last offense...

that is exactly the problem - it's nothing more than a nuisance on this end, as i could just ignore it, but the bigger picture is that people that respond to the notification fail to have that message go through, because all it does is send a note to the admin, and not to the intended recipient - i want people to be able to send and receive their messages, so i am taking the time and effort to try to get people to fix their settings so they get their messages and such

Why can't I reply by typing in the "Reply to this topic box"? It seems I have to use the "Reply to this Topic" button first, otherwise the "Post" button does nothing.

this post really belongs in the "new features" thread where a conversation about exactly this glitch is going on - i believe the solution is posted there

2 more people today failed to read their email, which clearly says THEY HAVE A PM!

so, instead of logging on and replying to the PM, what did they do? they hit the "reply" button on their email and emailed the ADMIN thinking it was going to the person who sent them the PM

having to send an email explaining this is really getting old

do i have to send out a batch email? are people really this oblivious? is this a phone thing? (maybe the phone version wasn't such a great idea?)

whatever, it seems that nobody thinks it's them, so i'll start naming people who need to fix this

today it was Cloud to mefford, and dylan to pmason

in the last few months alone just some of the people were:

mefforddk

durtkillon

cosimo

roxy

plittel

clrbrook

jkravitz

silvy968

jimmywhisker

smshirk

wmmoss

daven

wmeckley

ds968

if you haven't done so already, and you don't want to get the email, please turn off your notifications in your control panel so that i don't have to disable it globally - if you want the email, respond to the PM, not the email

Can you change the notification email address to DO_NOT_REPLY@968forums.com?

i can do that globally, but some people want the notifications and i don't want to do that if i don't have to - the problem is not the notification - the problem is people not actually reading their email and responding correctly

pretty solid. we've been picking up new members at a fairly brisk rate (4-6 per week on average).

there has been a noted decrease in people responding to notifications too. it is down to a couple a week.
