Replacing Catalytic Converter
#1

So... My cat was old and dead. I couldn't get it to pass smog. My mechanic assured me that if I got a new one(I have no idea what brand), they are supposed to be all standardized that it would pass for me. Sure enough, for $270 plus installation, the car passed smog as if new. Just a FYI for all of you that live somewhere that requires you to get smogged. I know that Flash had said that some of them don't work. I'm not sure if I got lucky or what, but mine worked just fine.

On a side note- I think the car sounds different(for the worse). Could just be a mental thing.

i'd really like to know what cat they installed - that would be great news for everybody

the sound issue is likely due to the size and shape, and likely the lesser density

124k on the old cat. Two years ago when it passed it had 105k miles on it. Can't remember what the results were though. I'll get the name tomorrow when he opens up shop.

Stephen,

How was your car running when this issue happened? I keep getting a 1-2-2-3, but I seem to have some stumbling/idle issues as well.
