Replacing an AC condenser
#1

I took my 968 with an ailing AC today to a local mechanic for an estimate. They did a diognostic for $80 and told me it would be $1300.00 to replace my condenser. They weren't sure if i would need a compressor, too. They said the clutch on the compressor seemed fine, but they wouldn't be able to tell for sure until they replaced the condenser that is leaking. Doesn't this sound fair? Thanks for any help.

for that kind of money, they had better be doing a LOT of work - if you had a new condenser, i can't see the R&R part of the job taking more than a couple of hours, although the book may say otherwise - of course, you would then need to get it charged and all that

the problem with AC repairs is that it always seems to end up being a LOT bigger job than originally anticipated - it seems that seals all go about the same time
