Recommendations for a laser thermometer?
#1

Harbor Freight has one for just $29.99, and I found several on the internet for under $100. I plan to use it to troubleshoot my cooling system, but I'm sure I'll also find other uses for it, both on the car and around the house. Does anyone have any specific rcomendations for one they have had good luck with? Thanks.

I think I got mine at Radio Shack. I also got a new Multimeter from Sears that has a thermometer built into it, it has the infared and probe type thermometers on it..

Just read a decent article recently about using tire temps to manage pressure, etc. of race tires. The article said you had to use a touch probe type, that could measure below the surface of the tire (surface cools down too quickly to get a good temp reading). My impression is that you could use the same tool for measuring other temp related needs (like my wife's measurement of liquefied beeswax for encaustics). If I can find the article, I'll e-mail it to you Cloud.

MB968 : send it to me also, I am a instrument fanatic. Speaking of which, I hate the new cars that don't have any knobs, and have only one screen that you have to cycle through. That is another reason why I like the 968. I love the really big analog tachometer. I wish I could accurately mount engine temperature gauges all over the place so I could understand exactly what's happing at all times.

Touch screens work. knobs and buttons work. What I don't care for is a bad mix of both. Recently drove a Cadillac rental which had screen and button/bars. The feel of the button/bars was terrible. Thought it was a bad combination.

@flash: yaa for Ford! I hate the Cadillac commercial how they brag that the whole care is knob less. Maybe it's just a guy thing, by I enjoy turning knobs (oops -- nothing inappropriate was indented by that comment)

You mean like this?:

The big red light in the middle is an oil pressure warning light, which I'm going to set to about 3.5 bar to hopefully give me a chance to save my engine in case of a sudden loss of oil pressure at speed.
