Radio Code entered wrong, now no workie?!?
#1

I searched and the other radio code questions seem to be different than mine.

I was trying to put in the radio code after a battery change, while driving and from memory. Well, I transposed two of the numbers and the radio went off and now wont come back on so I can put in the code correctly.

Anybody done this or know what to do now?

TIA,
Mike D.

try disconnecting the battery again, let it sit like that for at least 45 minutes

if that fails, i might be able to reset the system with the durametric - not sure - there are some radio fault codes

Hold the button down for 20-30 seconds...you will then get "CODE" and plug in the ####

Man, it's been so long I don't remember which button you hold down..LOL

What kind/type of radio is it ?

In general you can put in a wrong code for 3 times - then the radio will lock itself for a certain amount of time ... this can be upto 3 hrs. Disconnecting doesn't (always) help.

This all depends on the radio. Generally, there are a couple of methods to get it to reset so that you can put the code in again. If disconnecting battery doesn't work, try this method:

Turn on power to the radio, and turn the key to the accessory position (should be the position that the radio has power, windows work, etc without starting the car).
Leave the key in this position for at least an hour and for some radios 2 hours uninterrupted (do not start the car during this time as it will restart the clock). If this works with your radio, CODE will be flashing for you to try to reenter the code once it has been on long enough. If you put in wrong 3 more times, you'll have to do this whole thing again. Some radios only let you do this a couple of times before going to the dealer.

Hope this works for you.

Figured it out! yeah!

Hold down the AM/FM button for 2-3 sec. and the CODE lites up on the little screen. Entered it correctly this time and all is well (except that its still a 15 year old stereo).

Thanks Again everyone!
