In an ongoing effort to provide the best features and functions, while allowing reasonable management of the very large database, we have worked out what we think is a realistic solution to the expressed need for the Quote function. We hope it will serve the needs of the members, and proves to be an asset to the site and not a burden.
Without further ado, the Quote function has been reactivated!!!
It has limitations intentionally implemented to prevent abuse and unnecessary quoting.
It is NOT necessary to quote the initial post or previous post. It is assumed that you are responding to one of those, and it is clear from the context.
You may use the<b> "+ Quote"</b> button to grab the TEXT content from a post. It operates basically as a "copy" button, until you hit <b>"Add Reply"</b> which then acts as a "paste" button. When you use the <b>"Add Reply"</b> button, it will automatically drop in into the top of that post, and display it in a modified font and display. When you are done writing yoru post, you hit the<b> "Add Reply</b>" button at the bottom, and you're done.
The <b>"Fast Reply"</b> button will not allow quotes.
Images are not allowed in a quote, so if you quote a post, it will only grab the text. This is to keep our bandwidth and storage down.
Only one quote is allowed per post.
There is currently not a length limit attached to the text of a quote. If we find that people are quoting long posts, only to say "+1" we will contact them directly. If that fails to resolve the issue, we will implement further limitations as to quote length.
If these limitations prevent you from posting what you want, you can always "copy and paste" any text content.
You will also note that the "Reply" buttons are only at the bottom now. This was a necessary part of this modification, and should be the buttons you are hitting anyway.
