Recently I took a rock in the fog lamp lens on my 968 and the new replacement was $168 (used $100)...so when I started pricing the Headlamps, Signal Lamps and Fog Lamps I decided to buy a protective kit. I installed it today and it looks great. Although I bought the kit through Performance Products ($$) you can go to the website of

http://www.xpel.com/ and find a dealer near you (and hopefully a better price).

With the cost of replacement head lamps and lenses like they are, I thought this would be some insurance. They don't look bad either. They are made from a scratch-resistant, urethane material attached by an optically clear adhesive. They're advertised to withstand a barrage of 1" diameter stones (about 1oz.) at speeds up to 120 m.p.h. with no damage to the lens. I'm not sure I believe that but they also have a 5-year warranty. If any of you guys ever get barraged like this, please let me know after you get out of the hospital. The warranty does not cover ramming a Hummer, explosions, etc. I'm not sure what the protective covers will look like several years from now but for right now I'm pleased. I was not pleased to pay what I did to replace the broken lens. Cost for pre-cut urethane pieces? About $50. Available for various Porsches. Make sure you order the right kit. The http://www.xpel.com/ website lists cars they sell for. Perfect fit for me. The 968 takes Headlamp Protection Kit # H2506.

a wise choice. had mine for over two years, and they still look as if nothing is there.. you need to have your nose right up against the headlamp to notice it.



wish they made a film like that for the windshield <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> - mine is a magnet for rocks.



regardless, I'm actually relieved to hear our lamps are that inexpensive - almost the same age ( '95 ) mercedes E 320 - each headlamp : $ 325 if you really search long and hard, and $ 515 from the dealer ( for nothing but a lens and a plastic bucket casing <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) needless to say, I have the film cover on those headlights as well.

There was a guy on Ebay awhile back selling Stone-gard urethane kits including the fog/driving lights for like $4.95 plus freight. I picked up two sets. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> You may want to do a search and see if he's got more.
