Proper placement of cc cable.
#1

I have noticed this in many pictures of engine bays. Some cruise control (cc) cables are floating over the top of the engine. Mine is, I believe, correctly hidden below the top engine cover (don't know what we legally call it).

Any reason for the different arrangements?

The correct way is under the cover, lazy way is on top of the cover. Amazing how lazy people out there.

I have tried mine both ways, and I found no difference in handling or throttle response. Mileage did improve slightly with the cable under the fuel injector cover, but I believe that was due to improved airflow.

Honestly, I think one person got lazy or distracted and forgot to put it under the cover, and every mechanic after that thought that was how it was supposed to be. Mine is under the cover like Dr. Porsche intended, which also keeps it out of the way of the top brace.

Just what I suspected. A bit of laziness involved here. Just wondered if there was a heat issue.

Nope, no heat issue for the cable. As Matt surmised, someone didn't place it under the cover properly and the picture got circulated and it became acceptable.

Once it's been like it for a while, it (throttle cable on a RHD) wears a shiny spot into the cover as well… Sad I'd put mine right, only the cable being there bugs me less than being able to see the shiny spot when it's not!

If left long enough, it will wear a groove in the injector cover, I am sure Porsche did not design it that way

Surely has to be under the cover, else what's the point of the "exit hole" in the cover on the inlet side?

Kaj, thanks for those photos, I'm soon to start fitting CC so am collecting as much info as I can in advance. So those shots were just great.

Doh .... having viewed heaps of engine bay photos searching for cruise wiring, I now realise the "exit hole" is also for the throttle on RHD Sad
