Folks,
Yeah, the physical head is larger and apparently less controllable than the emotional head. And that little stalk behind the rear view mirror wanted to give me some feedback by relenting on its intended purpose.
It broke at the very narrow part, right next to the clip that attaches to the windshield. The material appears to be some type of aluminum, or maybe magnesium, or some similar cast metal. It made a clean break with nice jagged surface on both sides of the break, and given a non-porous material, it looked like a good candidate to glue. Went with the good old trusty JB Weld, the slow curing one. I let it set for 2 days, and clipped the whole thing back on. That stuff gets really hard. I was able to adjust the mirror without concern, but will certainly write back if it doesn't last. The dark grey color of the mixed JB weld is perfect to match the dark grey of the mirror stalk as well.

if it breaks again, and you have automatic garage doors, consider the homelink mirror - i now have it in my car - WOOHOO!

Thanks Flash,
I didn't even know about these, ebay has a bunch of listings ranging from about $25.00 to about $100.00, and then a couple at about $150.00.
They look great, my garage door opener is in the cubby right now, so I have to pick it up, aim it, etc. - kind of a pain. Won't buy one yet, but have put it on my "der upgradin' notes" in my 968 log for the future.

I replaced my ISRV mirror with an automatic dimming one that incorporates a compass. I keep my garage door transmitter in the center compartment, so I just open the lid and press - don't have to pick it up. Based on what you've described, you might find that easier than in the cubby.

Do you have a link for Homelink, Flash?

Three buttons is what is on the stock mirror on my wife's C280. However, living in a less upscale community than we previously had been in, we only need one button.
