I got in my car yesterday and pressed the clutch and behold...it just stayed down...Slave cylinder maybe?...anyhow it was good thing that I was just 6 blocks from home. So i put the car is 1st and limped home... Now I need a mechanic in Elk Grove or Sac that knows how to work on these cars. Also, If I have to replace the clutch, any suggestion other the weight a ton stock item?

could very likely be the high pressure hose that goes from the master to the slave

if it is ( and that's what happened to mine, with the same symptom ) that would be great news - easy, fast, cheap fix !

I'd also put my money on the clutch hose from the master to slave -- it's happened to two of my 968s. You should replace it with the stainless steel one from RS Barn (and consider replacing slave/master while you're in there....).
As for mechanics recommendations, it might be worthwhile asking on the "main 944/24/68" board (not the 968 board) on Rennlist. There are quite a few active members in Elk Grove -- but they are 944/951 owners (basically the same car anyways). Those guys also meet the every first Tuesday night (ie tomorrow) at Rubio's for Taco Tuesday.

I use Frank's Automtive - 5220 Folsom Blvd 452-0917
They have worked on most of the 968's that I know of in the area and are realitively reasonable

Well I finally got a chance to bring the car to Franks this week. Yep it was the hose as expected. While the car was there, I went ahead did the belts, changed all of the fluids and I thought I was good to go. After a test drive, Frank suggested maybe changing the clutch. He stated the the pedal feel was too heavy and that was probably the culprit in the hose bursting. The car now has 60k miles on it..Hmm...any suggestions.. Looks like I may be driving the Lotus this coming weekend...

not likely that the clutch caused the hose to burst - he may think it's heavy, but you may also have an aftermarket clutch in there, and they can be heavier feeling
if it isn't slipping or anything, drive it down to paso - we'll check it out and you can compare to others - then you can do what you think you need to based on that
