Proportioning valve, part number and how-to - firefish - 05-18-2009

I am getting a 5/33 (correct?) proportioning valve to replace the stock 5/18 as per the recommendations here. Now, do I simply go to the Porsche store and ask for it or do I need a part number or do I go someplace else?

I don't even know where the valve is but I am assuming it is located in the master cylinder. Does replacing it require any special tools or special knowledge or is it a straight forward swap?

I have not succeeded in finding a how-to thread for replacing the valve. If there is one, could someone please point me in the right direction.

I have however found a p/n for a 5/45 valve, paragon lists them for the 911(964): PP-964.355.305.00 Is this the correct 5/45 valve?

I'll be interested to see your impression. I installed mine as I was very much a beginner track driver, and I can't saw I noticed any difference. Maybe I would have noticed an improvement farther along in my track driving "career," but as it was, I couldn't feel any change in car's braking attitude.

Probably so. But when I installed the proportioning valve, I was still very much in the "deer in the headlights" phase of my track driving learning curve. I could have let half the air out of my two front tires, installed the donut on one of the rears, sawed my front sway bar in half, removed one of the rear brake calipers, and installed a supercharger, and I wouldn't have noticed any difference in the way the car drove. I was too busy looking in the rear view mirror watching all the VW Golfs and Mini Coopers pass me like I was stuck in reverse Thank goodness those days are behind me.

I imagine so, along with some considerably faster cars, not to brag. Track driving was initially a very frustrating experience for me, as I was routinely THE slowest car in my (beginners) group. But then I enrolled in a local driving academy, which emphasizes a lot of seat time, and it finally started to click.

yup, as per the list i posted, the one you wanted was 930, not 965 - the rest of the numbers are correct
