poking around trying to figure out a date for this - it's always hot, so that is what it is, but the beer is always cold, so it's not so bad

this could happen as early as mid july, and as late as just before school starts in september

thoughts?

i'm thinking saturday august 1 - how does that work?

temps look good historically speaking - that should also give everyone enough time to get their car together for the run (this is traditionally a fast paced one)

things will go pretty much as always - fairly early morning departure from my house to go to "Coffee and Cars" in irvine and drool on the cars there - departing there about 9 for the run - back to my house for the BBQ

just talked to rustech last night - he said he should be able to make it - talked to midblu yesterday, will hear back from him in a couple of days - he's up in your neck of the woods right now - ds968 is probably a no go, but as he just said to me on the phone, you never know

More likely than not, no Ortega run for me this year. I do have plans to drive down to L.A. the previous weekend, ( 24/25/26 ) with Fri and Sat pretty busy, but on Sun I may have had time for the BBQ part of the Ortega event..definitely not the coffee and cars or the run.. and that's also if
the BBQ would have been on a Sun.. way too many conflicting dates and events to manage. Well, maybe next year..

Suggestion - skip the coffee and cars and hit the OT highway at 7. Last year we got hung up behind all manner of slow moving caravans on the route. We can grab caffeine on the way, or I'll buy a box at a local starbucks and we can inject at flash manor. Alternatively we can stop in Lake elsinore for a coffee/pastry brake (misspelling intentional).

lol - typically i do the runs very early - two problems with that:

one is that i constantly get complaints about having to get up so early

the other is that we end up back here WAY too early for the BBQ

hmmm - maybe a breakfast stop at that shopping center on the other side? i'll think about it and see what i can come up with that will get us through ortega before traffic but not cause people to have to get up too early - maybe we just need to run blocker there to hold traffic until it clears enough ahead of us - i'll work something out

Sounds great, last year was fun. Count me in, and really enjoyed the coffee and cars, in large part because we could talk and meet people, so I hope that remains.

i'm inclined to keep it in the program, because it is a truly amazing things to see - it really starts the day out right - it also gives us a really good easy to find rendezvous point

but i will see what i can do about figuring out something about the traffic

I've never done this run. Do you drive to a certain point
and turn around on Ortega hwy? Besides a lake is there
anything at lake elsinor? Why is there traffic, looking at
a map it doesn't appear to be a shortcut.

The coffee and cars is a good place to meet, but I could
skip it.

the route we took last year, which was a bit different than the year before, is a big loop that goes back behind another lake, and then makes its way over through some canyons and then back down this way

Since I won't be there, could one of you guys do me a favor ? Bring a gun in the car and if you see that dipsh*t in the copper color Nissan Murano again, driving 30mph and cluelessly holding all the 968s behind him for 20 minutes like last time.. shoot his tires.
