New member upstate NY - gts - 04-28-2019
Retired, ex 914 owner current shopping for several hobby cars- an E30 325IS, and if I can find the right one, a 968. Currently joining the forum to evaluate the potential failure points and associated repairs I may need to do on the cars I'm looking at. I do most of my own work.

Because they only imported around 2,008 968 cabriolets & somewhere around the same amount of coupes to North America, the selection pool has fewer potentials choices. Combine that with attrition over the last approx. 25 years, so my suggestion is don't be too picky
. Many more possibilities for 914s and BWMs due to the much much higher production #s (Porsche produced something like 10 times as many 914s as 968s)...(BTW, also a 914 fan and formerly had a 323i...which had M5 wheels and just a car I would like back in the fleet)

I have a 914 also. The 968 is a totally different car - much, much more comfortable but also (of course) far more complex to work on.
I daily drive my 968. Once they're sorted, they're very reliable. The 968's clutch plus six speed shifter - once put back to factory specs - is about a close to perfection as it gets.
Tejon007 is correct that they are much harder to find than teeners. OTOH, they don't rust. So the ones that are out there, even the East coast cars, are going to be be in better shape just on that basis. No hell hole!
