Hello all,
I'm a wannabe 968 Cab owner. Still looking for the right car and figured this was the best place to get good info about them. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

I've been a Porsche fan since I was 14 years old, but I was bitten by the 968 bug about 2 years ago. Anybody got a nice cabriolet they wanna sell? I've got a lead on 3 of 'em, but they're all long distance. I live near the Lake George area of upstate NY. If you're local and want to talk Porsche, let me know.

Well, since I'm trying to make it beyond "lurker" status, here's another post. Please forgive my newbie-ness if this is the wrong forum.

Is it possible to convert the rear "seat" area of a cabriolet to real rear seats like the coupe? I've seen 2 cabs with rear seats, but they both looked different.

Don't be afraid of shipping from a remote location it'll be worth it in the end. Not likely your going to find the perfect car 25 miles from home...but, you never know.

It is possible to convert to rear seats, and the boxes are in big demand.

Thanks Jay, I appreciate the welcome and the info. Yeah, most of the cars I've seen are nowhere near my home, so I'll likely be flying and driving, or shipping (rather drive it home tho). [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif[/img] Actually, one of the prospective 968's is located in my hometown, so I may just fly down there, visit friends, examine the car, and, if I like it, drive it home.

I'm glad to hear that it's possible to do a rear seat conversion. My 8 year old daughter wouldn't really fit in the box. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif[/img] Is there information here on your forum that explains how best to go about a rear seat conversion? If so, where should I look?

cruise around - use the guide in the tutorial to tell you where things are - resist the impulse to blurt out every question that comes to mind until you've spent some time reading - there is a wealth of information here, and you will find it if you look

ALWAYS use the "more options" in the search

as to the conversion, it is not legal in many states, due to the inability to install a shoulder belt - check your local laws

I converted from the storage compartments to rear seats in my cab. I have no argument with what Flash says about the legality - but I've never had my grandsons in those seats with the top down, so they're virtually invisible. They enjoy the coziness, as well as the ease with which they can fasten and unfasten the lap belts.

I worry about the catapult effect. The seats are so close that any front end collision will absolutely result in the child's face leaving a nice imprint on the back of the seat (lol - not worried about killing the kid - it's just a horrible thing to have happen to a perfectly good pair of seats).

Welcome BBGun,

As others have said, don't be afraid to buy and ship or fly in and drive home. Many of us here have done the fly and drive...some very lucky and some not so lucky. If you can find a car that has been owned by someone who frequents this board or is a Porsche enthusiast in general, you're more likely to get a car that's been well maintained, tastefully modified, or BOTH! Get a local shop to do a PPI if you're doing the "fly and drive".

Pick a budget/price point and buy the best car you can within your price range. As Flash mentions, spend some time poking around here as your list of things to do will mount up in a hurry.

There is a very nice cab that pops up for sale near me in Alexandria VA from time to time but I haven't seen it advertised for awhile and it's a very low mileage car (32K IIRC) and another car is for sale a few miles from me now via eBay. I put a link up here a few days ago...check the Buyers Guide section under "I saw this car for sale" or whatever that section is called!!

I just bought mine on ebay and drove from NC to miami with the truck and trailer to pick it up. Couldn't be happier with it, it turned out to be a great car. Keep looking
