Thought Id drop in here and introduce myself. My name is Steve. I have a 93' 968 soon to be turbo, and a 86' 951 3.0 turbo. I plan on doing a near replica of a 968 turbo s. Figured this was probably the best place to get info on the conversion. Specifically, trying to compile a complete list of what parts the 968 ts has that the 968 doesnt. This is gonna be a fun project, and Ill have pics, and share eventually.

Do a quick search for 'turbo' and you'll find a lot of discussion on this topic. The key piece I have incorporated into my thinking is that you want a tight engine before you FI or you may have a nice system with a dead engine.

welcome - yes, please do a lot of reading - you will find a lot of discussion about turbocharging and supercharging - this is not the thread for it, but there are plenty here

take a minute to read the Tutorial (button on the upper left of each page) - it will explain the member levels, access restrictions, how they correlate, and how you graduate from one level to the next

Yes, Ive read the tutorial. Unfortunately, I dont think I can see any forums for mods yet. Just wanted to introduce myself, and give you an idea what brings me to your neck of the woods. Really liking the forum. I tried to purchase a membership earlier, but didnt have access.

Yeah... This particular engine will be completely gone through, and the block bored out a bit. Fitted with an 8v head. Only thing Ill be retaining is the block, and crank. I have most parts from a 951 I parted out. Just waiting for a good deal on a head. The stock internals of the 968 dont handle boost well, and pistons not right compression. If your block is scored, kinda pointless yeah. Bore it out a bit. Definitely more to it than slap a turbo on, and custom weld an intake. Forged internals are a must really. But, this should really not be in this thread. Sorry 944/68 turbo modification is something I geek on. Cant wait....

I just realized I misspelled my username. Supposed to be MonStrous4Banger . Thats embarrassing, Guess I should contact a mod....

as the Tutorial says, you won't see the modifications area until you graduate upward - this is specifically to prevent new members from jumping into areas that might get them into trouble, as happens far too often with new eager owners - reading first is a much better way of figuring out what does and does not work on these cars

one step at a time, but it goes quickly

when you get to the point where you have access, you will be able to read about all the countless failed attempts at turbocharging this engine - to date, NOBODY has been able to show a streetable turbocharged car, likely because they tried to get over 400hp from it - the factory was probably right when they set the power at 305

but, as you said, this is NOT the thread for this discussion

My 951 is streetable, drive it all the time. Its essentially the same engine Ill be doing in the 68. Only its an S2 block instead of 68 block. 68 crank tho. Around 400whp 450ft lbs. Havent dynoed since before complete break in.

Welcome!
Seeing as you have a 3 liter 951, you'll be just fine.

newbie here - flash - 12-30-2009

starting another thread about that would be better than having that conversation here - there are plenty of people who would like to hear about a 3.0 turbo that works, since so far every one of them we have heard about "needs a little tuning" or "runs hot in the summer" yada yada - none of them seem to run like the car did from the factory, which is really the definition of "streetable" - we'd love to hear about one that works
