Cabrio: Trunk won't open!! -

We've spent the last 2 months moving so we haven't spent much time with our 968 cab but now that we're residents of Maryland we needed to get our Porsches inspected. Everything was fine until the tech needed to open the trunk, and it wouldn't open! We've never had the problem before, the switch has always worked and the lock always worked fine. Here is a list of what I've checked:
- Latch release functions when manually operated
- "Emergency" manual bowden cable releases the latch
- Fuse for the trunk release (#28) is in perfect condition
- Trunk release motor worked perfectly when bench tested
- Microswitch on key tumbler and passenger compartment switch do NOT//NOT cause the motor to function
I'm truly at a loss about what to do next. It seems highly unlikely that a passenger compartment switch failure would cause the entire system to fail. I've got a multimeter, but I don't know what proper values should be going to the trunk release motor.
Has anyone fought this battle before? We can't get our custom PCA Maryland plates until the car is inspected!! Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Just a guess from a problem I had with my trunk release. It was diagnosed by a smart friend as a bad diode in the motor assy.

I'm fairly certain that I'm an idiot. After testing what seemed like every component of the trunk release system, it occurred to me that I should check the bowden cable going from the release latch to the motor. Sure enough, the jam nuts that hold it in position for the release motor bad come loose and didn't allow for the proper tension on the cable. Once I reinstalled the motor and re-tightened the jam nuts, the release button worked like a charm.
Now, hopefully no one in Maryland has the "HER 968" license plate.
Thanks for the quick reply, I thought I was losing my mind.
