saw one close up yesterday. my first impression : " what were they thinking ?! " my lasting impression : " yup, butt-ugly "
then again, beauty is subjective, so fire away

I tend to agree. While I wouldn't go so far as to call it ugly, I don't find the 458 particularly attractive. I wasn't too wild about the 430, either. I think recent Ferrari's peaked with the gorgeous 360, although the 348 wasn't bad, either. Nothing compares to the incomparable Dino, though.

Besides the Dino, my Fav. Ferrari designs are the F355 Berlinetta & the 288 GTO

Yes, Ferrari has designed some of the world's most beautiful cars over the years, but they've also come up with some dogs. Witness the Mondial, the Enzo, and the Testa Rossa. I put the 430 and the 458 somewhere in the middle.

Lol, i forgot about the hideous Testarossa and the Mondial..and the Enzo..although as unpleasant to the eye as the Enzo is, it does have a menacing look to it. the Italia model has the appearance of a badly shaped toy car ( albeit a hell of a fast toy )
Agree - the Dino is a masterpiece for the ages. F355 also a rockin' beauty, and I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I do like the F430 Not sure yet about the 599, but definitely more appealing than this latest design.

Then again, for the more budget-conscious Ferrari connoisseur, there's this little gem:

The fact that the donor Toyota MR2 chassis dimensions aren't even close to those of a Ferrari 360 would have stopped many a kit car designer wanna-be, but it didn't deter this intrepid soul. My favorite is the side view with the top up. Check out that front door seam. Oh, and make sure you have a barf bag handy...

Yeah, probably actually a pretty fun car to drive. The MR2 chassis is a great platform. But I still can't believe somebody spent whatever it cost to create what is basically a rolling cartoon.

Looks like one of those toys you pull back and let go.

To each his own I suppose. The Italia looks like the sexiest car ever made to me.
Some guys think Uma Thurman is good looking - and I don't get that either. To each his own.

The fake 348 on an MR2 chassis reminds me of a fake 250 GTO on a Datsun 240 Z chassis I saw. Pretty convincing until he fired it up. It didn't have that wondeful mechanical sound that the Colombo designed V-12s from the late 50's and early 60's have.
For a few minutes diversion look up Ferrari 250 SWB on You Tube. You should find two video clips titled" Ferrari 250 SWB Tour Special Stage" and "Ferrari 250 SWB Tour Auto 2003". The first clip is in car video of a rally stage through French vineyards and the second in the mountains somewhere in France after a recent snowfall. As you are watching this remember that a 250 SWB steel body probably is worth $4.5 MM and an aluminun body version considerably more.
For my money the 250 SWB Berlinetta, 250 Lusso Berlinetta, and the 250 GTO are among the most beautiful Ferrari designs.

I had the pleasure of seeing a yellow 458 today. I am certainly intrigued about the design from the rear and the sides. The front however did not look as I had expected. The verdict is still not out for me. I do however enjoy watching the Top Gear segment on it. Simply amazing performance.

i WANT that car!!! the MR2 was a phenomenal platform that just never got any love- the tuning optioins are so wide, you could easily end up with 300hp in there
don't like the italia either - too much bling - i agree that the 360 was the last good looker
also agree about the 355 - been really thinking about one of those lately - the targa version with manual trans really sounds good - sounds good to the mechanic who would be servicing it too

We're getting off topic, but I couldn't agree more. I think the MR2 would serve as the perfect platform for the ultimate track car; for under 20K, you could have a car that could literally run with the fastest production sports/GT cars produced today, regardless of price (including the Italia - there, nudging the thread back toward the topic...). Of course, such an animal would be a pure track toy, with a punishing ride and no creature comforts of any kind, but that's what the 968 is for.

Agreed! On both points.
I also agree on the MR2. For anyone that has driven one its quite a performer. On the old SW20 board however it was labeled as a chic car and as mentioned "got no love".
