Well I finally did it. My Porsche splitter is toast. Driving to pick up my Audi at IMA and hit some snow in the middle of an off ramp. It tore the splitter almost off. Now going to have IMA make me one from carbon fiber. Maybe it's something we could sell to 968ers.

Porsche Splitter - Lim Yong - 01-29-2011

Replicate the TechArt splitter.

Porsche Splitter - cosimo - 01-29-2011

Ok, I'll look at it.

Porsche Splitter - flash - 01-29-2011

there is definitely a market for a splitter that is more complete and wraps around underneath so that there isn't a "lip" to grab things - that is the problem with the AIR, the GT Racing, and the OEM unit

the fiberglass one i have is a one-off, but it definitely does the trick - it is fairly resilient to impacts and skips over things that would snag a "chin" type spoiler - the tech art, while not the most attractive unit, nor as functional as the chin types, also does much the same - something that does what these do would be very popular

the key is going to be pricing - most people choke when they think of spending $500 on the porsche motorsport polyurethane splitter - if somebody could come up with something else, and market it at about $300 they'd have a hit on their hands for sure

good luck

Porsche Splitter - DaveN - 01-29-2011

If someone does a proper, working, splitter for 300.00 I'm all over that. It's hard to expect good looks and functionalty for a reasonable price like 300.00 but maybe someone is into the "labour of love" out there and just happens to work at a fibreglass or molding factory.

Porsche Splitter - flash - 01-29-2011

the one for the 951 is $250 and looks good - no reason one for the 968 should be much more (after factoring in sales projections)

Porsche Splitter - cosimo - 01-31-2011

I saved the front part of the splitter to use as a template for the carbon fiber version. A $300 or less would a good target for pricing. I could not find any info on the TechArt version on their web site.

Porsche Splitter - flash - 01-31-2011

try the carnewal site - they are the ones that sell it now

if it is a flat chin type like the porsche motorsport unit, and is going to be either carbon fiber or fiberglass, then it will need to be priced in line with the other 2 similar units out there, at about $150 - if it is going to wrap around underneath and replace the front apron (batwing) then it justifies the increased cost, and i think would do well

Porsche Splitter - benspeeder - 01-31-2011

I installed another GT splitter on the race car this weekend. Came out great - looks awesome and is a disposable item at $200. Tore the last one off going into the gravel at Watkins Glen - started downpouring 3/4 through the race. I was second car into the trap and went deep enough that nobody hit me. Several other cars followed me in and weren't so lucky - they got tagged in the rear by other folks, all within 60 seconds.

Looked like a parking lot.

Porsche Splitter - Lim Yong - 01-31-2011

The TechArt splitter is no longer available. Anyone with a Pic? I'll try to find one..... I prefer the looks of the Tech Art. It is similiar to the 933 splitter. Probably not as effective for downforce but it does not stick out so much that it scrapes.

Porsche Splitter - flash - 01-31-2011

since when? have contacted gert at carnewal for that? last i heard the mold was still good and he was still having them made

if it is true, and they are now no longer making them, then all the more reason that a new one would be a great thing

Porsche Splitter - chudson - 01-31-2011

Both banditsc and myself are wanting splitters. If someone wants to produce several of whats being discussed here we're probably in. Any idea on time forecast?

Porsche Splitter - biotechee - 01-31-2011

IIRC, as Lim noted, the TechArt is truly NLA. TechArt does not make it anymore and Porsche didn't have any in stock in the US or Germany. I believe there is a thread on here (perhaps that I started) where you will find a pic of the TechArt splitter that someone in England has.

Carnewal sells the Porsche Motorsports polyurethane splitter.

Porsche Splitter - flash - 01-31-2011

oops - my bad - i'm a bit out of it today - i was thinking of the motorsport unit - that is what carnewal sells

indeed the tech art is NLA - i think i got the last one a number of years ago, and i returned it, as i thought i was ordering the motorsport unit, and got that one instead

Porsche Splitter - Lim Yong - 02-01-2011

Just thought it'll be great if someone is planning to create a new splitter so I suggested the Tech Art. Group buy for the motorsport one is kool too....Thanks

Porsche Splitter - flash - 02-01-2011

i liked the fact that the tech art wrapped around underneath, it added to the front end aesthetics, and due to its ABS construction, all without the dreaded complications of the other units, but it is nearly non-functional as an aerodynamic device - as i said, i had one, but returned it

gert is always up for group buys, but still you end up paying a pretty penny for something that gets snagged on every little thing - i had to repaint mine 4 times

a $300 wrap-around unit, similar to what i have, would be a welcome addition

Porsche Splitter - biotechee - 02-01-2011

The Strosek front splitter, which is wrap-around I believe, is still available from Strosek. Unfortunately, it is more expensive than $300 to get one. It looks similar to what Flash made for his car.

I would be happy to post pictures of mine (currently not installed) to help the process of making something economical in the states...

Porsche Splitter - cosimo - 02-02-2011

Jim, I would like to see it. You can send it to me?

Porsche Splitter - Lim Yong - 02-02-2011

Here is a link to a previous post in 09 regarding the Tech Art splitter. http://www.968forums.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=6893

Porsche Splitter - DaveN - 02-02-2011

I find the Tech Art splitter a bit boxy for my tastes and it doesn't look terribly aerodynamic. I'm definitely interested if one is made closer to the Porsche Motorsports version.
