how do i stop linked in? - flash - 06-01-2011

to my knowledge i have never signed up for linked in, yet i continue to get requests to connect to people - i do not want to be a part of that, and i want to stop those emails - i finally figured out to kill them on facebook, but now i have to deal with yet another pain in the butt networking site

how the heck do i do that? i know i can create a mail filter, but how do i stop it at the source?

I also occasionally get email invitations from members on LinkedIn, but when I click the link in them I get a page saying my account is not associated with that email address - huh??

Not positive but my guess is it is one of two things.

1) Just your average spam since someone sold your email address to them

2) Your email address is in someone's email contacts and they let linked in scan their contacts to see if they can "link" those people.

You can't "opt out" of LinkedIn as far as I know, and people who join in the future will continue to try to connect to you. I think you're going to have to block the whole domain in your e-mail client or at your provider if you have such an option.

yeah - i was afraid of that - i'll just block those emails

thanks

I used to get them. Decline the invitation. On ocassion you will get a reminder that they are outstanding. Unless you are getting tons,as a popular guy like you might, that should do it. Not a perfect solution but it worked for me. Are these people whose name you recognize?

how do i stop linked in? - flash - 06-01-2011

not normally recognized

i'll just block the emails - no worries - it may result in emails being blocked that i didn't want to block, but so be it

i'm really trying hard to get away from email altogether - i already got rid of texting (i pay extra so that i can turn that completely) - my cell phone is almost never used - little by little i am getting back to having control over the interruptions in my life and being able to decide when i want to work, and when i don't - quality of life and all that

I was just lamenting this over the weekend while I was working on the car. The phone was going off constantly, interrupting my workflow and train of thought. Still in the middle of my stereo install - this car has by far been the most difficult, and time consuming, one I've done so far. It damn well better sound good!

exactly!

in the middle of a project, and right when it was most inconvenient, my cell phone rang today, which very rarely happens, as there are maybe 2 dozen people who have the number - i picked it up assuming it had to be one of them, and since they all know how i feel about calling me on my cell phone, it had to be important - nope - just my service provider with some "great news"

Luddites beware! Bob you watched me Friday nite slave to phone but that's my biz. Don't want to be bothered by the phone? Turn it off or leave it where you are not. Use it don't be ruled by it. That's what our thumb is all about!

how do i stop linked in? - flash - 06-01-2011

yup - i do that a lot - i had been out earlier and forgot to turn it off, but it usually is off - heck, half the time i don't even know where it is

i don't always answer my office line either, and since only about 5 people have the home phone, and we have a tele-zapper on it, no call listing, and no caller id blocking, it doesn't ring unless it's somebody i want to talk to (or my parents - lol)

My motto is: "The telephone is for my convinience, not the caller's" - at least for my personal phone.
