A co-worker sent this to me today:

It looks like F1 is seriously contemplating making major changes to the 2012 schedule for a variety of reasons, and one of the outcomes of the shuffling could be moving the date of the US race (in my fair city of Austin, TX) from June 17 to sometime in November. For those of you planning to descend on Austin for the race, I can't tell you how great this is. True, Central Texas can't rival Arizona for shear heat (I've lived in both places [Image: ohmy.gif]), but combined with the humidity, mid June can be downright hellish. November, on the other hand, usually boasts fantastic weather.

I also took a trip out the the track this past Monday. While we couldn't see a whole lot of it from our vantage point, we were able to get a good look at the straight leading to turn 1. Wow, I'm going to wish I had dropped a small block into the 968 - along with a set of 14" carbon-ceramic rotors and commensurate calipers. That is one wicked climb, over a very short distance, followed by a similarly steep descent. Overall, the track layout looks amazing. I'm assuming they will eventually open it up for club racing, DEs, and other special events for those of us not carrying a Super-Licence in our wallets. Between this and two other very nice tracks in the area, Austin is really becoming a racing mecca. Whodda thunk it, from a city that prides itself in tree-huggery?

Great news, the only downside is that I'll have to wait a few additional months, but since I'm not a fan of hot weather, it's all for the better <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Thanks for the link to the schedule, Dan. Looks fairly logical to me overall. Trust me, you'll be happy not to be in Austin in mid June. Plus, this gives us a few more months to save up for what is sure to be a very pricey affair; I don't even want to think about how much the tickets will be.

Montreal was around 400 for all three days package, in the second tier grandstands and about 500 in the first tier ones. But venue price swings are huge, so no clue what Austin could be...they may try sky high prices to see what they can get away with for the inauguration event, and depending on how well they sell, drop next year,s prices or maybe keep them the same.

November sounds good. Although, having the race after

Canada makes sense.

20 races is a lot. That travel schedule, with the

back to back races will be very tiring.
