Round 5 - NASA Pro Racing GTS2 at NJMP Lightning Course - pmcrespo - 09-07-2011

NASA Pro Racing Northeast Region Round 5 on August 6, 2011. My third race of the season. New Jersey Motorsports Park Lightning Course.

This is really a great small track that I personally enjoy a lot. Technical and a drivers track with some nice elevation changes and good passing zones.

Very jetlagged, once again, I made it to the track, but entirely missed the Friday open track session after arriving almost at midnight. This weekend I found myself running a new size tire in the front with some used scrubs I found. On this Saturday, it was not tire drama that made me miss practice AGAIN (3rd in a row), but my body simply refusing the acknowledge the alarm at 6:00 AM Eastern Time when it felt like midnight Pacific Time.

A decent setup helped by some front camber advice from other racers, allowed me to qualify 1st in GTS-2 Class, 2nd overall.

Starting in the outside front row, the race was clean with some great racing albeit a VERY close call in T1 when the Pole Sitter barely cleared my nose on exit. That would have not been good for his Nationals Bound racecar with a good chance at a podium this weekend at Mid-Ohio. I made the pass for 1st overall into same T1 on Lap 2 and maintained the lead through the checkered flag. Jonathan ran a hard race and even with some mechanical issues kept the pressure on to keep me pushing hard all the way to the finish.

This race finished marked our 6th consecutive win as we set a new GTS-2 track record. Our 2nd track record in 3 races.

Thanks to Hoosier Racing Tires and RS Barn. Their products and services are what keep me winning. Look no further, buy Hoosier Tires and reach out to RS Barn for all things Porsche 968 and 944.

Here is the view from the 2nd GTS2 starting position. Jonathan Vasquez, 2010 GTS2 Champion driving his e36 BMW. Fantastik drive for him even with a bad header and motor mount. He is fast in anything... excellent racer even though he did indeed pull some close calls here...!

Enjoy!

Round 5 - NASA Pro Racing GTS2 at NJMP Lightning Course - Cloud9...68 - 09-19-2011

Pablo,

Congrats on another victory! Next race, they're going to make you drive in reverse to make it (somewhat) fair . It may be a little premature, but what are your plans for next season? I heard a rumor Red Bull is looking for a replacement for Webber . Seriously (without giving anything away), do you think you'll stay in the same class, or move to something different?

Thanks!!!! LOL.... I feel bad for Webber... That was a terrible mistake during the last race... He is having "one of those seasons" while Vettel continues to ride the biggest wave since, God know when!

I am not sure yet for 2011. I will likely not move up to GTS-3 in the 968 unless I get some sponsorship to get the power I need for a competitive season in what indeed is the most competitive class in GTS, and arguably in NASA. So may stay in GTS-2, and over the off season do some evolutionary and cospmetic upgrades to #75 for 2012. Hopefully I can take the Championship this year, so perhaps go for a repeat in 2012, a run for the overall NASA NE Championship, and possibly Nationals in Mid-Ohio. It is too bad that this year I missed the first race weekend in April (1st two races) as I would otherwise likely be in contention for the overall spot in points as well.

Now... seriosly, without giving anything away... I would love to get into a PDK Cayman S and campaign in both PCA and NASA. I may throw some feelers out there on this front just to get reactions. All I need is a donor PDK Cayman S!

BUT, if I win the lottery or new business ventures just skyrocket, I'll buy a few seats here and there in some of the pro series and see where that goes!

All in all, I first have to focus on the very tough last 4 races of the year and even a 2 hour enduro that is on the works for the Season Finale at NJMP. So still have 5 very challenging races to close the Season and for now, I am focused on that... Wish me luck!
