I have a buyer for my hood. His is an early model 95, and mine is a late model 92 (so no recessed badge). I'd like to retain the latch mechanism for use on the fiberglass hood I plan on buying (I know - I'm concerned about the fit as well - wish me luck that I get one of the better ones), but the buyer is wondering if there is any issue with using the latch from his old hood on mine. I've never heard of anything like this, but I was wondering if anybody has.



As an aside, I think I got a pretty accurate figure for the weight of the stock hood. I used a digital hand-held luggage scale that my wife recently bought, the kind that you strap around the object you want to weigh, and then lift up. I used it to weigh a 25-lb barbell, and it measured 24.6 lb, so it seems to be fairly accurate. Using this method, which I assume must be more accurate than the stand-on-a-bathroom-scale-grunting-and-holding-the-item method, I come up with a weight of right at 40 lb. GT Racing advertises their fiberglass hood at 14 lb, so a 26 lb savings is fairly reasonable. I'm sure the fit won't be great, but for a track car, hopefully it's passable.

Does PET list a different part, year over year?



I only see one, Hood Lock Upper (944 511 051 00), and Hood Lock Lower (944 511 027 00).

Good point; thanks. I've never heard of there being a difference, so I'm sure it will be fine.
