Ouch- what happens when you get cut off - anthonymaher - 03-12-2012

The result of someone in front of me not looking in their rear view mirrors and grinding off the left front corner of my car as they try and change lanes.

Body shop has now taken it. Good news is no damage to the suspension or frame; but I expect that this will not be cheap to fix what with headlight, bumper cover, fender, etc. Depending on how my insurance views the 968's value, I may have a few headaches ahead.

That's not good. Did they have insurance? Keep us informed. That's my worst fear every time I drive my car.

Bummer. There are so many idiots out there. Let us know what the damage is and if your insurance co will pay.

Hope the insurance company doesn't try to total the car. Curious to know how this works out for you.

This is exactly the reason why I have stated value of $25k. The insurance company typically will total the car if damage exceeds 80% of fair market value...it doesn't take to long to get there on an $8,000 car.

At least no one was hurt...best of luck,

Jay

Thats a shame, always disappointing to see. Best of luck getting her back on the road and looking good again.

this one continually makes me concerned. i can't get stated value insurance that gives me the amount of coverage i want, so i am stuck rolling the dice every time i drive the car. basically i have to make a decision between paying to replace the car, or paying a $200k gap in the insurance if i get in an injury accident around here. the car is less expensive.

i hope things work out well with your insurance company. so many have had such a hard time, especially with those discount companies. it's all well and good that the rates are lower, but if they screw you on paying a claim, how good was that? i've stayed with AAA for that very reason. not the cheapest, but competitive, and always easy on the claims process.

That's an M030 car too! Arghhhhh! Glad to hear you're okay other than seriously frustrated by some moron. If they try to lowball you, collect some sales of the cars with the M030 package. There aren't many, but they do trade for a higher price...

If they total it, it would be a great basis for a race car. I know I'd like to have my M030 car back.

What's up with the side marker light behind the front wheel? Euro car?

Good luck,

I have used JCTaylor for years and have stated value of $23k with no deductibles. Very low cost. I don't drive it as a daily driver, so the mileage limitation doesn't bother me.

WOW that is a bummer your car looks hurt but it can be fixed. I would like to ask what insurance company u have? I have been looking into American Heritage and Hagerty as I want a stated value policy. Right now I am with Allstate but coverage is more expensive and only book value if some thing happens. American Heritage is cheap but have a reputation of not the best customer service if needed. Good luck with your repairs.

I just hit the JC Taylor site and it would not take the info for a car less than 19years old. What gives?

Man, sorry to see your accident damage! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I almost had the same experience with my car. Luckily my cat-like reflexes allowed me to exit the road at low speed into someones flat and obstacle free lawn with no damage.

Coincidentally, I own the M030 mentioned by JWhalsten above.

It really got me thinking about agreed value insurance. I know my insurance wouldnt give two thoughts about the RUF wheels, or the M030 package. I just couldnt live with the milage restrictions. I dont mind a yearly cap, but a lot of places dont want you driving outside a 100 mi radius from the garage.

Ouch- what happens when you get cut off - Rap - 03-12-2012

Do you know where the person who hit your car lives?

Ouch- what happens when you get cut off - anthonymaher - 03-12-2012

Thanks everyone. I will have the estimate tomorrow or Wednesday. If it is truly bad news and the car is considered totaled, I will not be giving up for salvage; these cars are getting rare enough-- I dont want to be responsible for the untimely death of another 968!

I have already gotten into it with my insurance company about market value,----stay tuned

Yeah, I wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy. The ins company when you get a quote: Oh wow, a Porsche...thats gonna be expensive. The ins company when you file a claim: That thing is old, beat up, and worthless. They know a lawyer will just take most of what you end up with over their offer....years later. Ask me how I know. Good luck. That is totally fixable.

More damage than my car, but similar incident. If I had to guess I would say estimate will be in the $4500-5000 range. Mine was a dented fender and pulled the bumper loose (and tore the wheel liner). Here's a shot of $3300 with paint, and that's at a $38/hr reimbursement rate to the shop.

rxter - regarding JCTaylor, call their phone number and I think you will find them very helpful. Mine is a 1994 and I had no problem with having it insured unless they have changed their program. I just renewed my policy last week. Their phone number is 1.800.345.8290.

By the way, JCTaylor's policies allow 2,500 miles per year. $348 per year. No deductible, full coverage including liability.

Ouch- what happens when you get cut off - 94SilverCab - 03-13-2012

I have a policy through Hagerty.

5,000 miles/year.

No business driving

Must be stored in a closed structured shelter

Not aware of any "distance from home" requirements.

Stated value $25,000, about $640/year.

I hope everything works out with the evaluation and repair. Glad your ok. I bet the guy crapped himself when he saw the Porsche emblem. Whats is his insurance saying? They will be fast to try to total it.
