I was at cars and coffee this morning in Great Falls va and there was a guy there with a turbo 968 build. car looked really good. had over 400 hours in the body work alone. said it dynoed at 500whp and 540wtq. also said he has hundreds of laps on it between summit point and VIR and has never had any problems. really nice guy, once i told him i had a 968 he really got into the details of his car. he got a lot of parts from Pete at rsbarn as well as the austrailian guys who have built a few turbos. he did say the turbo was custom, and the intake manifold was magnesium. he also told me he had a 2009 gt2 and i think he said his wife had a ferrari <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/glare.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Nice car. Sorry to hear about his wife. That's rough. I guess it can happen to anybody. One day you're puttering along and Wham,... Ferrariosis.

while i'm sure it goes like stink (with that much power it has to) the aesthetics are everything i don't want. all that garish exterior stuff looks stuck on to me, and directly opposed to the lines of the 968.
i'd like to see some cleaning up under the hood too (maybe some plastic trim pieces to hide all the plumbing and wiring?)
but, to each his own. i'm quite sure i have done some things that others would find sacrilegious too

That car has definitely done many laps of Summit Point and many of them with the wife behind the wheel. I think she drove it for a few years up there and for sure she drove it for a couple of years after he got his GT2.

+1 on the exterior, and under the hood. Cool car though. Im going for a damn near clone with mine. I say near cause Ill be using vitesse, or lindsey bolt ons. I even plan on going manual windows, and deleting all the power options. Ive decided to implement the D1R braces too. One thing at a time, moving is my priority right now. Bout to load up the 968 on the trailer now. 15 hour ride ahead of me.

Styling is a very subjective thing, but I personally hate the exterior look. These wheels look horrible on a 968. On the other hand if a car is mainly used on track, then speed is what matters, not looks.

With the flares, the front end looks somewhat integrated (like a 993 GT2 looks somewhat integrated), but the rear does not flow well. I also have to wonder what an additional 2" spacing on the front tyres does to steering geometry and wheel loads, etc. If anything, you would think that it would soften the suspension up as there is a higher moment acting on it (i.e. the suspension has to resist more force applied, so technically softer for a given spring strength).
As per previous posts, what is good looking is subjective. The 911 GT3 RS 4.0, with all of its aero add-on's does not look as sylish as say the 911 Sport Classic, but it does look purposeful.
You don't have any photo's of under the bonnet - I have to vent mine to get rid of some heat. Suggestions on how to best achieve this whilst not killing the looks of the car are needed.

Moved to Ukiah. Just got in this afternoon, long drive up the 5. My p38 range rover pulled the 968 nicely. Was gonna take a pic of it on the trailer at vista point, tourists were out in force being Easter n all, didnt want to deal with that. Didnt see your post before I left.

When I rebuilt my TS/RS motor I had enough stuff to build another motor. I eventually sold to Dr john. Jay and I delivered to his shop in Sterling VA
That car passed my FH at NJ like I was still looking for the starter button!

That was a very cool race shop, he had some awesome cars in his showroom. I'll try to post some pics later.
The motor that Pete replaced was a very sorry sight, grenaded right through the block.

Two of the 4 Australian built RS are for sale at the moment, or at least they were last time I looked. For those interested in a sticky beak our major car site is
www.carsales.com.au and look up Porsche 968. These were built by Fitzgerald motorsport. Fitzy was a leading Porsche racer in Australia for a long time and had a long history running factory racers hence the support they provided him to build exact replicas. Enjoy. While I would love to own one, to be honest my standard CS is more than enough for me and still useable as an everyday car.
By the way they look in my opinion a lot better than with these oversize bolt on panels of the one above, it still is a cracking car though!

I cannot decide whether I like the wide body flares on the 968 or not. On a 993 wide body like the Rauh Welt-Begriff (RWB) I get it. It looks awesome if done right. I think if I where to widen the body panels I would have it done with something other than fiberglass. I also would make sure that that additional body panels flowed smoothly as if it came from the factory. Still interesting to say the least.

I like the Strosek wide body panels on the 968, but unless you can back up that appearance with at least 400 + hp, it could be viewed by some as a bit pretentious .. The hatchback and rear spoiler mods are not to my taste , but the side rocker panels alone I could see work..
