ATF Fluid in Brake/Clutch Reservior - 19bwb67 - 05-13-2012

Wow am I stupid. Power steering was making noise so i added ATF fluid to the brake/clutch reservoir by mistake. Drove it about 20 miles before realizing my mistake. I went to the auto supply shop first thing this morning and got almost all of it out with a turkey baster added some dot4 and got the reservoir clean with a turkey baster again then Flushed all lines at the calipers. Never saw any pink/red fluid. just a little dirty. Kept flushing until all clean yellow fluid was coming out. I cant get to the clutch slave to bleed it(no room to get under the car). I noticed that the blue line to the clutch master cylinder is on an upward slope to the reservoir so I did a little experiment. I added a little dot4 brake fluid to a clear glass and then added some atf and the atf floated! I am hoping that the atf never got to the clutch master cylinder. Any advise would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm about to jump off a cliff over the thought of possible repairs needed.

You're probably OK. If you just topped up the reservoir with ATF, it probably never got into the system, especially since the ATF is apparently lighter the brake fluid. You probably would have been fine just sucking it out with the turkey baster.

Don't feel too bad. If you ever listen to "Car Talk" on NPR, they've had some really funny stories about the fluids people have mixed up in their cars over the years.
