Pikes Peak Intl Hill Climb - coloradocab - 08-26-2012
I ran my 911 RSR clone, but figured that my 968 friends might enjoy some video from my first race with a truly international field (in my Division alone, had teams from Australia, Sweden, Germany, etc). Car was featured on the front page of the paper, was interviewed countless time, even got on the Top Gear website. Best experience of my driving life.

156 turns, about 5000ft of elevation gain over 12.4 miles. Runoff varies from dense forest, to drop offs of well over 2000 feet. Certainly helps the driver to maintain focus!

Well done. What an amazing climb. Just about a week ago I mentioned to a friend/co-driver/Spotter/Crew that I kind of have Pikes Peak in my "Bucket List"... He did not seem too thrilled... LOL... Neither are a few other that I have tried to get excited about the idea...

I drove the course about 50 times in an actual car, then watched video of last year's overall winner (Monster Tajima) perhaps another 200 times, over the 8 months or so leading up to the race. I had a few practice runs in the race car, as well, which are so different than driving it as a "tourist". Those also helped with tweaking and tuning the car, as getting it to run right with such huge elevation changes is a challenge (as are cold tires).
In trying to get others excited about running it next year, I have run into the same thing as you, Crespo! Many very seasoned racers say "you must be kidding". It was a huge undertaking (both my time and $$$ commitment, and assembling a large crew willing to get up at 2am all week for this), but it was worth it. It's truly one of the world's great races. If you're even considering doing it, I'd do it sooner rather than later...now that it's all paved, it seems to be headed toward becoming a fully pro race with more and more multi-million dollar teams competing (already many of those this year).
