My car will take 3-4 tries before it starts right after I get gas. It's annoying!! anyone have an idea why? thanks

does it matter how much gas you put in? in other words, does this only happen when it's full?

I always fill it up so I don't know what would happen if I didn't

DME Relay makes the fuel system do crazy things, especially on a warm engine...
Could be,

Try swapping to a 993 DME Relay. My 951 had a similar issue.

thanks Fox944, I didn't know you could do that. I tried looking on Ebay for one and they seem to fit several cars, I can't find a dme relay specifically for a 993:

i don't think the relay will have anything to do with getting gas.
so, again, does it only happen on a full tank?

i always just fill the car up so I don't know if it's only on a full tank

No it should not Flash. But when she gets gas, she turns off a car with a hot engine. So it may not be fuel related at all, but that's when she notices it. Spin, have you tried taking your car out for a drive and then turning it off for 30 seconds and restarting without filling up the tank? If not, do so and see if you have the same issue or not. This way we can start ruling things out.

Spin...the 993 DME Relay will have a part number that starts with 993. The OEM DME Relay that came in our 968's has a part number that starts with 944.

fox - i get that - that's why i asked about whether or not it was limited to a full tank. if the problem does not exist when the tank is not full, and the engine is the same temp as when she gets gas, then it is not a relay. i wanted to see if we could rule that out before drawing any conclusions.
lol - i have more questions before presenting a diagnosis, but one at a time.

yeah i will test that today hopefully but I'm pretty sure it only happens when i put gas in it.

I didn't get a chance to do the test yesterday but when I went to start it today it did the same thing it had done at the gas pump... wouldn't start right away. it was even more difficult to start it today than yesterday. So i'm not sure what's going on...

the long shot is that there is something amiss in the fuel system, either a return line, failing regulator, pump, clogged filter, bad check valve, etc
the more likely culprit is the DME relay, or the fuse to it

I would upgrade to a 993 Relay. I did that 2 of the 3 front engine Porsche's I've owned. Hopefully that is your problem....and an easy fix. But check the fuse as well, as flash stated.

Could be the starter going bad. My starter was particularly bad when it got hot, wouldnt work until it cooled a bit.

If you accelerate hard does it stumble or hesitate? That could rule out the fuel filter without having to remove the lines to check flow.
