This is my thread. Do not hijack it and do not contribute inane drivel to it. Any posts must follow my thread and can not disagree with me. In fact if you don't follow my rules I will sic Jay on you and he will break bread with you and gaze into your eyes. If you continue to exhibit your indisciplined behavior then I will have no choice but to sic Flash upon you. You would be well advised not to let this happen. I will not be responsible for this second threat level and it's consequences!

Now do we all understand? Have I made myself clear?

Ok first topic for consideration? Should one stock his garage or work area with wine, beer or both? Names and types please!

For my money, beer is the preferred 'man' beverage for the garage, AKA man cave. While I believe any truly good beer should be drunk from a glass, so that it can first be seen and smelled and then finally tasted, when you're in your man cave it's ok to drink from the bottle (or can!)

Malty German lagers are my fave, but tonight it's "Pumpkin Beer" from O'Fallon (Missouri)

It has to be beer. Wine is for dinner, and/or post working social gatherings. Did you ever hear of a wine fridge in the garage? Heck no, but a BEER fridge, oh yeah.

Now life is too short to drink s***ty beer. So, there has to be a standard...None of that swill like Bud Light, or Miller Lite...

Light beers : Stella Artois, Spaten , Plzen Urquell , Sapporo , Blue Moon

Medium beers : Shock Top, Firestone ( all ) , Fosters, Dos XXs amber, Sam Adams

Others : Fuller's London Pride , Red Tail Ale, Flat Tire, Anchor Steam

Anything else, not worth stocking ( IMHO ) ..

J, have you ever heard of a wine rack? Suppose your woman comes over to visit, this presupposes you allow her to do this on a rare occasion just to keep the peace, and she wants a nice glass of wine. What do you do? Me I will open a nice Pinot and pour her a glass as I smoke my cigar! One doesn't have to pound their chest to be a real man! Don't get me wrong, my beer consumption has increased with my garage. Me I'm a Guinness and a St Pauli type of guy.

Guinness, in spite of its cult status is pretty weak slop ( muddy water ), IMHO. And furthermore...wait, I'll continue later there is some weird commotion outside my front door...back now, the entire population of Ireland and Northern Ireland apparently united by a common cause was out there with torches and pitchforks.. :-).

I like it. I like Murphy's too - Just about any stout is good for me. I really can't drink spirits much anymore since the radiation from the cancer treatment did a number on my throat. Pretty much any item that is spicy I can't deal with still (it's been 7 years) - It took 3 years to be able to eat pepperoni again.

Ouch, sorry to hear. But Guinness makes sense now, it's more velvety ( is that even an adjective ? ) So smoother and much less irritating than any other beer and certainly any hard alcohol.

It's cool - Years of second hand smoke while growing up - 25 years of dipping and 20 years of cigars can do that. Just glad I am alive to drive my 968. Took a long time to fight it...stage IV throat cancer - It was a coin flip and I eventually came out on top....

Even before that I really only enjoyed dark beer. There are a couple that are not stouts that I can deal with, Killian's, Corona...I want to try the Guinness Black label.

I just had some local-ish milk stout that was not too bad.

Wine and champagne give me a head ache. Always have. Can't drink 'em.

Hope I'm not too far off topic to upset anyone. If I had a place in London (which I don't) I'd stock it with Caffrey's. Can't get it in the states as far as I know, but had to be some of the best beer I've tasted.

We have a craft brewery that opened behind the winery. A nice half growler of their IPA is just what we need after a day of winemaking. I'm partial to good craft beers and we are lucky to have an abundance of them locally. I've got a friend who brews some pretty good Belgian beers. We trade wine for beer. Radler ain't bad on a 100 degree afternoon.

BTW, those of you who get headaches from drinking wine, it is probably an allergic reaction to the yeast used to ferment wine.
