Do you think the fuel spill is fuel cap related?

Also, have other members used 993 fuel cap on 968/944?

Thanks.

I don't see how that could be fuel cap related. Could you be more specific on when/how this happened and how much fuel was in the tank? Did this happen in minutes after a refuel or days?

The fuel tank was filled almost full. Then, I drove on curvy mountain roads. If it were fuel cap related, then I am lucky!

Well, the car is in the shop now. I will check again tomorrow.

i'm thinking lines or sender gasket at the top of the tank.

The only way I could see it being a fuel cap issue is that the cap has absolutely no seal on it, and then it not only got by that but also the "ping pong ball" in the tank filler unit when turning left, then leaked out, and into the overflow drain that was somehow disconnected and dripped inside and found its way to the bumper seam.

I have not seen a car with the rear bumper off, but if I did, I bet it would be coming from the fuel tank sending unit gasket leaking or the filler neck somewhere.

There are lots of pictures in this thread:

Do you normally have gas smells in the cabin?

Good luck!

I have had my car checked three times for the gas smell. No luck. The other day, because I am a rocket scientist, I decided not to fill the gas tank up completely. No gas smell after I filled it to 3/4. Doesn't solve the problem but it did eliminate the smell.

After going through my fuel system, I would suspect an issue with the filler neck. It's right there above the wheel well.

This seems to be a pretty substantial leak. I was told to follow my nose. This does work.

Paul is correct. there are many good write-ups on this stuff (many from Paul).
