Hello, everyone! I am from Norman, Oklahoma, and I am thinking about buying a 968, but I'm not sure if it is right for me. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You're in the wrong place if you think anyone here would try to talk you out of it....buy it, you'll like it

lol - seriously, while we all are addicted, this car is not for everyone.

poke around. read as much as you can. determining whether or not a 20 year old performance car is for you depends on a LOT of factors.

Good luck in your search.

I think a lot depends on how handy you are with tools and if you have a place to work on the car. They are technical performance cars, but this forum has information on just about every issue the car could have, as well as lots of issues that you have never considered- those are the ones that will scare you to pieces.

But, as far as bang for the buck is concerned, these cars still turn heads and people with far more expensive cars stop to talk to you when you own one. Most have no idea what they are, but they know style when they see it. I like mine a lot, and I have had a lot of different cars over the years. So far it's been less work than the Jag, but more than the Lexus, and more fun to drive than any of them, although not for hours on end.

Beg, borrow or whatever to get a ride and try driving one. If you don't develop the biggest grin you've ever had, then don't buy a 968. But I'd bet you'll be doing some serious searching the minute you exit the car. Good hunting!

Agreed, and take your time, I looked at a bunch before I purchased mine. Some needed too much work, and some were unreasonably expensive. Use some of the nationwide search engines like SearchTempest and AutoTempest, as well as AdHuntr. That will give you a feel for prices, conditions, and locations.

There is nothing like a Porsche-and the front engines rule! 50/50 weight balance-they drive themselves. The 968 is the epitome of Porsche design and technology-and power- for front engines. When first on the road they equaled 911 in performance-speed wise-and handled better... Yes-the newest ones are 18 years old but these cars are engineered like nobodies business. Bang for the buck incredible. Maintenance not a big deal if you keep up with basics-OIL-belts-rubber/chains. Just make sure you buy a car that's got records and has been maintained! Learn before you buy- and make sure you get a PPI! Good info on this site for PPI-also check out Clarks garage online.
