94 968 Fuel filter - Pops 968 - 06-25-2014
I'd like to replace my fuel filter. It's been 16 thousand mile since it was last replaced. Is there a do it yourself or U Tube video on how to do it. I don't even know where the filter is? Any guidance would be appreciated.

On my 92 coupe I think it's in the rear right wheel well. Pretty easily accessible too.

R & R is pretty self-explanatory and intuitive, but also dirty and messy. Wear eye protection - there's lots of falling debris when you start tugging on stuff back there!

If you are in there, in that area, you might consider replacing the check valve also. I think it is attached to the output of the fuel pump. It prevents the fuel from draining from the forward fuel lines and fuel rail on the engine. If it fails, or or perhaps if it gets plugged up, then the symptom is "hard to start" since the fuel has drained back to the tank and upon starting has to be delivered to engine all the way from the back. Some other people here on the forum have reported this problem, I never experienced it, but did replace that while putting in a new fuel pump and filter. Should be in the $10-$20 price range.

The fuel pump check valve is located on the out flow side of the fuel pump. You might need to clamp off the fuel hose from the tank to fuel pump. I used vice grips and covered the jaws with tape to prevent damage to the hose. In post #4 the brass colored nut on the fuel pump is the fuel pump check valve. Part # 944-608-951-01
