Hi all,
So in the course of adjusting my balance shafts, I removed all the spark plugs to ease turning the motor by hand. I noticed that the effort becomes very easy 1/2 of the cycle as I start approaching TDC on cylinder1. However, it then get a a bit more difficult as I move away from TDC. Is this normal? If not, I'm wondering what I should be looking at to have a constant effort.

All normal , just before tdc , the valves help a bit to push the camshaft , rotate a bit further and they have to pusch down again , and that will give different resistance .
Also piston in tdc takes less effort .
When you rotate the engine by hand , wich is slow movment , you feel all the different resistance from the engine cams pistons and baalnce shafts .

thank you.

When you turn an engine over by hand with the plugs out you really can get a feel for the friction and the forces acting on the engine parts. It makes you appreciate the desmodromic valves used on Ducatis because of the lack of valve spring tension.
