So, what do you coffee drinkers do? I really dislike having to drive around with a hot coffee between my legs, are the any good aftermarket products?

There are a few aftermarket cup holders people have tried including one of the ebay models. None of them in my opinion look like they belong.

I've seen the ebay cup holder but I really don't want to put screws into the console.

I use the folding cup holder simillar to Griot's garage one. Good german quality and easy to use. Fixed it with 2/4 screws(supplied) between the center mount on rear passanger carpet. (This is just behind the cassete console). No drilling needed. The screws are held in the thick carpet + rubber(under) and you are not making holes in the metal/plastic. Once you remove the screws just rub the carpet, the holes are not visible at all. I'm really a stock person and was really hesitant to fix the cup holder with screws. Looked all options and this was the best for me. Have cup holder in 968 for past 4 years and happy. Can take photos of it if you like to see. I cannot own a car with out cup holder. Spiling the drinks all over and cleaning the mess. not worth. Hope this helps.

I also have the 9xauto cupholder but painted the sheetmetal black prior to installation and mounted two Radio Shack rubber feet behind it to make it more stable. Additionally, I mounted a second cupholder at the rear of the center arm rest by mounting it to a piece of sheetmetal and drilling two holes in it to line up with the two rear armrest/console mounting screws. I bought and installed the foldable cupholder from 9xauto.com (same as Griot's I think), but was dissatisfied with the relative flimsiness, and it is difficult to reach while driving. I then bought this item:

I know it appears cheap looking, but it works really well. Doesn't really install - it simply wedges down between the passenger seat and the center console. Very stable, holds two drinks safely, and has a center compartment for cell phone or other small items. Doesn't really interfere with passenger seat room, but if it does, it can be pulled out and thrown in the back seat in 2 seconds. I am much happier with it than I thought I would be, since it is so cheap (and no, I have no connection to the seller). Just another option to consider.

I put in the folding plastic holder too. Kinda pricey but German made. It's probably the same one that Griot's sells. I parted the carpeting with an icepick (carefully)on the side of the console just forward of the most front most position of the seat and pop-riveted it into place with a small washer on the backside of the carpeting to keep it from pulling out. That way, when I remove it and brush the carpeting back into place no one will notice. To get to it, I reach across the console but, for me, it's more comfortable than any place I've found on the driver's side.

I must be the cheapskate. The "Wedge" is my choice. It holds 2 cups and has a place for your change, breath mints, or whatever. It fits between the passenger seat and the console. In or out in 2 seconds and very secure. I got mine for less than $5 at Autozone.

Like you and Flash, I also have the 9xauto variety and love it. Do you have a picture of the behind-the-armrest photo you could post? You can never have too many cupholders in your daily driver (unless you are stuck in a minvan) <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I use one i got from a bmw dealer i worked at, it just sits on top of the door pocket, i had to add two little rubber standoffs to make it work, pretty simple but it works great

The 9xauto type cupholder can also be mounted in the space between the two rear seats, behind the armrest.

Buzz,

Assuming I have inserted the photos correctly here they are. As you can see there is no drilling since the console screws are used. I could have had the cupholder fact the other direction but actually had a remote phone speaker mounted to it with super velcro. I have since replaced that with the cradle for my XM satellite radio. That is also mounted with super velcro. If I screwed up the pictures let me know and I will e-mail them to you.
