I did the three step process yesterday. Cleaner, dark blue reviver, and proofer. My top looks new. Lots of work, but worth it.

Larry - what products did you use? where did you get it/them? cost? anything special to note in the process -do's and don'ts? Thanks - was thinking of doing this soon.

The product is Renovo. There are three products, cleaner, dye, and protector. Plan a half day because it is lots of work. Mask off your car using 3M Blue masking tape. Allow time to dry per instructions. About two hours between each step. Don't worry about the look when you first put on the dye. It will soak in and look great. Car Care On-Line Has the product.

Larry, I agree with your review of the Renovo three-step process. I'd done it shortly after purchasing my car two years ago, and I just did it again about 4 weeks ago. I also took the time to mask the body, the plastic window, and the glass. It really ends up with an almost-new looking top. And, water beads on it. Very nice - but care and time are needed to do the job right. Well worth the effort, though.

years ago, i had a top re-dyed - it ended up being blotchy after a summer in the sun



curious and considering this as a maintenence item, but don't want to mess up my nearly perfect top

As indicated, I have two years experience with a black top. The first time I applied the process, some stains and sort-of-white splash marks (looked like overspray from when someone used an orbital machine on the trunk lid) got a little darker and less visible. After the second application, those marks are almost invisible and the top has a much more uniform black look. The only potential downside is that if you use the dye, any light or white stitching on the top will also become black. I was OK with that result, particularly since my top had some stitches missing and now that's much less noticeable. Overall, I'm very pleased. However, as with everything else, caveat emptor.

so, no sun-bleaching issues? does your car sit in the sun often? do you use the boot cover? if so, did you use the stuff on the boot cover? does it have any problems? are these enough questions? feeling like the spanish inquisition? bum pa

My car is virtually never in a garage. I use the boot cover frequently but not always. Over the last two years, there was no bleaching, discoloration, uneveness, anything. I did not use the Renovo on the boot cover as that was (and still is) in excellent condition. From the bleaching that shows on the inside front section of the top, I believe that the PO had the top down frequently in the sun and never used the boot cover. One day, if I'm really ambitious, I'll try dyeing the inside of the top. Is that enough answers? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

if it weren't for my previous bad experience (can't remember what we used though) i would probably just jump right in - just not looking to mess up a perfectly good top at this point



i'm mostly consideing it for the boot cover - the top is up maybe a dozen days a year - otherwise, it's the boot cover that is exposed



sounds pretty safe though - i'll have to buzz you about the details of application
