What does this part do? - Cloud9...68 - 08-01-2005

While installing my new Bosch plug wires, I bumped my hand against the 13 mm bolt holding the black cover-looking-thing that's directly in front of the intake camshaft. The bolt was totally loose; I think it would have eventually fallen off. It's the bolt inside the black plastic piece that protrudes from the center of the circular black plastic piece at the front of the camshaft. The bolt is maybe an inch to the left of my new fell-from-heaven plug wires in the picture. I'm sorry, I don't have Photoshop, or I'd circle the bolt, but hopefully my description is adequate.

My question is, what does this piece that the loose bolt was attempting to hold do? Is it just a cover piece, or does it house a sensor (cam position sensor?). Bottom line, could its extreme looseness have contributed to the hesitation problem I was (love the past tense of that word ) having? I tightened the bolt, of course, and of course could try loosening it again, but I thought it would be safer to defer to the expertise on this board. Thanks.

That is exactly what it looks like, a little arm that holds the big black plug in place. Interesting method, but it seem to work.

So it's just a plug, and doesn't serve any other mechanical function?

Just a plug. It holds in the Mojo.
