since my timing belt went and i need to have the engine rebuilt anyway I was wondering what would it take to upgrade to a turbo?

a really big wallet, and a heap of patience, and if you are in california, a back door smog deal

figure about 25 grand by the time you get it all done since you are talking about having to rebuid the engine - it will also take a few months

if it was only the timing belt, are you sure you need to do the bottom end? - did you pop a piston? usually it only requires a top end

Forgive the ignorance, but why is the cost so great? I've only owned a N/A 944 and my 968, so my knowledge of turbos is zip. What is involved with the changeover?

Inquire with these guys as one shop that offers turn key packages. http://www.powerhaus.com/968t.htm

a good chunk was the rebuild he was talking about, but the high cost i quoted is based soley on what others who have done this have said it ended up costing

Has anyone worked with Broadfoot Racing?

19bwb67,

Maybe they'd do a trade-in of the 968 3.0L for the purchase of one of their 2.8L turbo engines. That might be a good buy for some more power.

Sorry to hear about the timing belt failure.

The Turbo discussion can go a few ways...all of them require no less than $25M, though.

Nothing fancy about my car though...

No heat, no A/C, no Power Steering, No lights, no windows, no wipers, no sunroof, no carpeting, no power seats, and just a bunch of little foam peices still stuck in hard to reach areas.

So my wife wonders where all the money went...seeing as we have less!

or you can put in a built up 944 Turbo motor for a lot cheaper...
