Can these be purchased at local retailers like Autozone, O'Reily's etc? Can someone tell me what I'm looking for (without a lot of trouble). I confess. I need to buy so I can get inspected, but don't have time at work to break down and look.

pretty sure there is a thread here about this - i think gene found them at such a store - they are a GM part - i think somebody else also found them at Home Depot

not sure what the policy on plugging a sponsor is,

but i read that 968 engineering has a l.e.d. version that he can do for you if you aren't in a real time crunch. should last for a lot longer.

just a thought.

Don't know about availability at Autozone, PepBoys, etc. but here is the info. OEM part number is 941.631.911.20 - I ended up buying two at the dealer as I was in a hurry and needed the car to pass inspection. I bought a spare and low and behold, on the actual bulb itself is stamped in black ink "GE891" with "A4" below. Flash is correct that it is a GM part - matter of fact, when I had mine apart to replace the bulb, I saw GM part numbers all over the place indicating that the entire cab 3rd brakelight assembly seems to be GM. Must've been an import issue for the US. Hope this helps.

I never got the auto message for these replies, so while I was waiting for one, I went to the local parts place told them what it was where it came from and it also was from an early 90's corvette. He had them in for $7 each. Took me all of 5 minutes to swap out, and sailed through car inspection like a champion. Thanks anyway.

yes ASC installed that - same unit they used on the corvette conversion

For anyone else who's needing to replace bulbs on a cab's third brake light, I got the 968Engineering treatment done on mine, and it looks great. And...I don't anticipate having to worry about any of those little bulbs again! Great mod from Dave.

Oooh, ooh My ears are burning! Here is the pix of the conversion lit up. It is also very noticeable how much quicker the the LEDs light compared to the incandescent tail lamps.

Ditto for me on 968Engineering's LCD replacement. Very neat, very bright, and no more dealing with those unreliable little bulbs.
