I'm getting wheels. Chrome? Silver? Polished? -

I just purchased a 92 Silver Coupe with 60,000 miles on it. It hasn't been delivered yet, but I'm sure I want to upgrade the wheels. It has the stock 16s and I'm interested in 18s. I had a 94 968 cab and an 89 944S2, as well as an 84 944 that I drove into the ground so I'm fairly familiar with these cars. What I'm not sure about this time is which wheel will compliment my car the best. I have an urge to go with Chrome Turbo II wheels, well, just because I guess. I haven't been able to see Chrome on a silver 968! I've looked for pictures, but havent' had any luck. What do you think about Chrome wheels on the Silver 968? If not the chrome Turbo II wheels then what? I know wheels are a very personal decision, but I would love some advice! I want 18x8 in the front and 18x10 in the back right? Thanks - I just discovered this websight and I'm so excited to take advantage of it and add to it when I can!

You are right, wheels are are very personal choice. Kind of like shoes. Personally, I think that chrome wheels have no place on a sports car. Too *Bling* *Bling*.
Satin, and brushed colors are better - again my opinion.

I have the the size that you are talking about my 1995 polar silver cab.
Mine are painted twist wheels from a 993 twin turbo.
Here is the stock wheel in silver paint:

Here it is in chrome:

The silver painted wheels suits me. The car does not have a lot of chrome and putting chromed wheels on it did not seem to flow for me.
Most of the exterior on the cab is painted to match. I like the look and had tried to increase the polar silver paint and decrease the black rubber bumpers front and rear.
Up to you.

Both great examples of good taste. Thanks for the thoughts. I've had the twists before and enjoyed them. Here they are on my '94 that I sold. I'm still kicking myself.... But I'm sure I'll have just as much fun with my new car on the way. I noticed on both of your cars the modified parking lights in the front....with the removal of the little mini rubber bumper things. I want that!....I've also seen a clear version...I'm not sure about those....opinions on that as well?.....
Anyway... I've talked to the guys at Wheel Enhancements several times and know they are the authority. However, I'm considering another resource:

Any word on these guys?

You can order the yellow front european lenses now. They wrap over the bumperette area that our (US) cars had to have. There is a thread in MODIFICATIONS with all of the details. Installs in 5 minutes and looks WAY BETTER.
The thread also talks about a clear lens that will be available soon from a company in Sweden. If you email them with your interest, it may push them forward a little. Check to see if your state allows clear turnsignal indicators or amber. If amber, an amber lamp in a clear lens will do.
I have not bought wheels from Wheel Auth , so I have no comment. My choice would be silver painted twists. I have seen several on Ebay. But black cars are probably the best color if you just have to have chrome.

IMO Chrome is tacky on anything but old Hot Rods and classic muscle cars. Euro cars always look classy with polished rims. The Turbo Twists are just way to common, I'm kinda getting sick of seeing them.
If you have the money, you can't go wrong with Fikse.

Welocome to the community !
One of the sponsors of this forum, Tire Rack has a feature that allows you to view various tire/wheel combinations on your car. I reccomend trying it out (though they don't show a silver car <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> )

Ouch DG! Actually, the PO had polished the wheels years ago and I had them repolished to clean them up. I had thought for a long time about taking a Scotch Brite pad to them to get back a satin finish...but I'm fearing the worst side of that experiment.

Sir Patrick: your photo shows 17" wheels. If this is your car, and if the wheels are in good shape I might well want to buy them from you. Please let me know! Thanks,

I'll keep you in mind if I decide to sell them. However, I really actually like them a lot more than I thought I would! I think what I am going to do is have them repainted and dress them up with new painted center caps.... I really think I'll love them then. Who knows though...
I'll post some pictures when I have it all worked out. Thanks for all the imput everyone!

And, yes, I am an idiot. They are 17's. I was so dead set on getting aftermarket wheels that I honestly didn't pay enough attention when I was purchasing the car. I just knew I was going to turn around and have new wheels on the car in no time. The fact that they are 17's and that, well, they look pretty hot made me have second thoughts really quick!
