My name is Sergio Bürger, i'm a Mechanical Enginneer and I own Weissach - Centro Tecnico Independente Porsche, the only Porsche independent service shop in Brazil.

We restore vintage 911 and 356, mostly imported from the US, and we perform all types of routine maintenance on newer models as well.

I just bought a '95 968 euro coupe in rough shape, I plan to restore it to original spec and would appreciate all the help from the forum.

Thanks,

Sergio

Seja muito bem vindo! (lived in Brasil for 20 years)

Wishing you the best in the restoration process of the 968.

How many 968's do you think are in in Brasil?

Welcome!

As you probably already know all '95 968's are re-VIN 1994's. And again it would be fun to know how many 968's are running around in Brazil.

Welcome!!

Where is that coming from? Totally NOT true.

I think you may need to check your facts on this item. I believe that only ALL 1995 Cabriolets, were 1994's that were re-VIN numbered, I have never heard that this is true for coupes.

Was it the late1994 model year ( aka 94.5 ) when the seats were changed to the 993 style ? Both of my cars ( coupes ) are from that latter1994 line and the VINs are definitely 94 . And I believe Porsche still produced a whole series of 968s after the last 94 production car left the assembly line, so t can't imagine why 95s would be re-branded / re-VIN 94s.

New member from Brazil - 94SilverCab - 01-02-2017

Dan,

Seats changed by early 1994 (my 968 is February 1994) mine has 993 seats.

There were 1995 Coupes manufactured in 1995, but ALL 1995 Cabs were 1994s re-VINed.

Check your option codes, a code 718 means it was re-vined from the prior year. I believed it also happened for 93 to 94 and 94 to 95. Cars built and not sold to a dealer were re-vined to the following year.

So Sergio, see what you started? Shame on you :-)

So, is your car a 718 option or a true 95?

So on second thought, I don't know if this code applies to Euro cars. Anyone can clarify?

New member from Brazil - Porsche968CS - 01-03-2017

It does, see the above list which is based on option code M718. EURO is not a specification btw, there is only two either NA (North America) or RoW (rest of the world).

New member from Brazil - az968 - 01-03-2017

You are right, I should have said RoW. After all, Europe doesn't constitute the entire RoW after NA.

Your stats indicate there were no RoW coupes built in 95, only CS? That would mean Sergio's is really a CS?

New member from Brazil - Porsche968CS - 01-04-2017

CS and 1 Cabriolet. Most likely the topic starter's car is registered in '95 but having a '94 model year VIN.

I would love to know the car's VIN number and seeing some pictures.
