Loose Steering Feel - fspadafino - 04-20-2006

Lately the steering on my car is very loose. There is much more play in the wheel, and I need to turn it more than usual to have the car actually start to turn. The wheel feels very light and disconnected when driving. It is a bit unnerving. I did hear a distincty loud "clunk" sound in the front end, but a quick look underneath on the side of the road did not reveal anything.

Can anyone offer me a direction in which to start looking for the issue ?

Thanks in advance, Frank.

stop where you are -

you may have any number of things wrong that could result in wrecking your car or worse - there is no real way to diagnose that one online - there are just too many components that could do what you are talking about

get it up in the air and have it looked at right away - steering failures are nothing to wait on or screw around with, and the fact that you are noticing it says that it is very possibly a significant issue

better safe than sorry

Agreed, recent and dramatic changes in steering accuracy and feel demand an inspection. Don't mess......

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I am making an appointment to get the car checked out in the new few days. Until then, she sits in the garage. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
